I'm an apple fan and I sincerely don't want them to enter the console war. Having 2 systems with fiercely different architecture is enough.

I'm still on my first. Rarely play it anymore though. I prefer to play FPS on my computer instead. (something about the mouse/keyboard config over a controller)

I think the only thing I would play is fighting games ala SF4 and what not.

Not sure what I'll buy in the next generation consoles....

I've had my 360 since a week after they were released, and I've never had a problem with it.

Well then you are one of the 20% who got lucky. hahaha. who the hell sends out a machine with an 80% failure rate? One good thing about MS rushing out the 360 is that it killed HDdvd.

Of my friends with 360's (I believe I know 9 people), only 1 has his original machine. Of my friends with PS3's (7 people), 5 are originals. I felt bad for my buddy who bought a ps3 specifically because his xbox died ... he's one of the 2 that had to get his ps3 fixed.

I had to have my PS3 disc drive replaced 14 months after I bought it. Worked fine one afternoon, went across the street for a bbq. Came back and it died.

I've had unbelievable luck with consoles. Besides my NES (and who had an NES that didn't have problems anyway?) I don't think any of my systems have ever stopped functioning. Here's my badge of honour: I have a launch PS2 that lives at my parents house that still works.

360 Elite here. Never had any problems although I doubt I use mine as much as most. Use it more as a media extender but certainly gave it a good work out when I first bought it.

Always ran it upright with an intercooler on the back. Lots of electronics in my basement so I always try to keep that room cooler and humidity around 35%.

i have a launch PS1 somewhere back home that still works. it has the overheating issue which can cause games to stutter and freeze, but turn it upside down and it works flawlessly. i've had my 360 for almost 4 years now and it's still working fine also. the only console that ever actually broke on me was the 32x for the Sega Genesis. i don't know if it actually broke though, but it wouldn't work with my Genesis at all. ended up returning it to the store and used the money to buy that original Playstation instead. turned out to be a much wiser investment

Whhatt?? The NES is built like a tank! I must have gotten mine around 1990, and it still works just fine! Same with my original gameboy actually.

I was amazed at the durability of the NES. Over Christmas time, my gf cousins hooked it up and we could still play duck hunt (although the controllers were long dead)

Now the one I was going to use until the next gen came out also broke. So stupid for me to be an optimist that it would last. This one also won't read discs anymore.

FARK MICROSOFT!

My 360 is dead right now, right after the 2 year warranty expired. It only has video error but I am going to send it in regardless. If you claim the 3 RROD sometimes they don't even test

Guys, the "blow" trick doesn't actually do anything. It's a myth perpetuated by children.

Dust will not prevent the contacts from conducting. The issue with the NES is the contacts/prongs in the cartridge slot get fatigued from people leaving games inside the system all the time. You need to open the system up and bend them back up that's all.

The blow trick actually did nothing! It was all in your imagination!

The solution to this? Don't play console games. That's what I do. I gave up on consoles after the Dreamcast.

The act of removing the game and putting it back in dragged the pins over the contacts, scraping off some of the oxidation, making a better connection when you put the cartridge back in. So, no, blowing didn't help, but it didn't not help...(except for the moisture from your mouth etc...)

I suppose the blow trick was more of a superstitious thing (like wearing a lucky shirt before flames games). Sometimes it "worked" and sometimes it didn't. For some reason we all kept doing it despite it only fixing anything every 3rd or 4th try. Guess we should have realized it wasn't the action that was fixing it.
