I tend to go overboard with Christmas gifts every year, which as many people have mentioned, causes a lot of unneeded stress trying to find the perfect gift. This year I'm buying everybody 2 things: a stocking stuffer of ~$10 value, and one gift.

Books are my sure-fire fall back gift. If I can't find someone something that I think they will like, it's off to chapters and I can find at least a couple thing for everyone on my list.
On and Suzles - I understand your motivation, and it's a noble idea, but man must your nieces and godkids hate you on Christmas morning.

Even better. Now, I wonder if you can get something like that, but with Lenin or Stalin....

I can think of much worse people could be called. I rather like the Donkey Aunt.
Its funny I have always viewed people's birthdays as more important, more individual and just for them and then I do give nice gifts. I was raised to view Christmas as a time to help those less fortunate not just greed and 'more, more, more'. Someone said earlier in the thread that they will preach 364 days a year and give good gifts at Christmas (or something along those lines) - well I will do the exact opposite. I think I know which I prefer. My views probably come with my advanced age. Youth, quite often, can be a bit self indulgent.

That's cute. I also buy gifts for the less-advantaged, but once again, I get them things they would like, not things I would want them to like.

I guess I could consider myself lucky as much has happened in my life over te last year so I only have to buy a minimum of 3 gifts. Suggestions?
1: Mom
2: Dad
3: Brother & sister-in-law (usually do joint for financial reasons)
I usually spend ~$50 on each.

My family gets annoyed with me every year because I never know what I want. I usually hold back on them because we've never really had a lot of money, so I try to think of practical gifts they can afford. This year I went full-out and just listed everything I've thought of wanting for the past year. Including but not exclusive to:
- Surfing lessons
- Lift tickets for Whistler and Mt. Washington
- Airfare and accomodations to Las Vegas
- Digital camera
- Flames tickets for the games at GM Place this year
- Jerseys

I am the grinch when it comes to Christmas and I usually insist that people shouldn't spend money on me as I have everything I want - if I didn't, I would buy it. We have a family Secret Santa with my in-laws, and I'll probably just get my giftee a small token along with a donation to World Vision in his name.
I will, however, still end up with 2-3 POS presents. You will see me on Breakfast Television on December 28 or 29 exchanging them for something half decent (got $150 in Panago Pizza gift cards last year).

All I want for Christmas is for someone to clear my visa and line of credit debt. Is that so much to ask?

Why do presents = greed to you? What do you have against thinking about something somebody might actually want, and putting a smile on their face by giving it to them?
If you want to donate to charity, go for it. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anybody on this board that doesn't donate to charity in one form or another at some point - or multiple points - throughout the year. It's just unbelievably douchy to give something to charity in my name, then expect me to thank you for it.

I think it's even more douchy(to use your term) to expect a specific type of gift and then be pissed when you don't get it.
