Is it easy for me to pick this up and play? I tried playing Madden 10 and I don't follow football at all and so all the plays got me confused what to do... in the end I didn't find it fun and haven't played it in forever.

In fifa its a game with not many stops, side for offsides and fouls and what not. you are responsible for setting up plays yourself, unlike madden where there are routes and what not.
it is easy to pick up and play IMO.

I haven't played a FIFA games in years but I'm intersted in maybe grabbing this. For those who have played it, is it a significant change from FIFA 09? If not I might just pick up a cheap copy of FIFA 09 for casual play.

I'd say so. Manager Mode is way more in-depth, and Virtual Pro is supposed to be amazing.

Yeah manager mode intreagues me actually. I want to take over for Arsene Wenger. What is virtual pro all about? I'd look it up myself but my work denies access to gaming content.

Best EA Soccer game hands down! I gave it a 93/100 for the review...Would have been higher except for some minor in-game controller bugs.

You would rate it even higher than NHL? How do you compare these games to Madden?

I bought this yesterday and really enjoy it. It will take a little while to learn all the passing, shooting and dribbling techniques but they aren't too complicated and aren't comprised of to many buttons.
I'm a recent convert from Pro Evolution so to me I have noticed differences:
- The pitch seems much smaller. On PE I would seem like I had 10m of real space between the net and myself when taking a corner kick but in FIFA 10 it seems like mere cm. I've tried adjusting the camera but to no avail.
Otherwise the game play seems great so far, no complaints.
I also would like to know if they do roster/team updates like EA NHL10? I am bitterly disappointed Chile is not on the game at all! There has to be some kind of update now that the world cup teams have mostly been finalized, right?

I am addicted to this game. I absolutely love the updates to Manager Mode this year. I started off by joining Exeter City. I sold off a lot of the older players and tried to use the money to rebuild the team via upgrades and scouting, but I got fired after two years because the team got relegated twice.
I then went to Bray in the Irish League, but the team was in massive debt so I couldn't improve it at all. I left after one year to go back to Coca-Cola 2 and rebuild my reputation with Macclesfield. I reached round three of the F.A. Cup in the first year, and finished in the top half of the league. Then I finished runner-up the next year and now moved up to Coca-Cola 1. I'm going to build my rep up some more and then jump ship to a big club.

Got the game..its outstanding. I was contemplating buying Pro Evolution Soccer, which used to be the game to get, but the store clerk convinced me FIFA is the better game now. Glad I took his advice. I've only been playing vs my brother and havent touched any game modes yet, but the gameplay is superb.

Hey all, just got back from a trip to SA and the UK, and while I was there, bought Fifa 10 in London, thinking it would be a pretty cool thing to get while I was in town. Got home tonight, popped it in, error code, wrong area code or something to that nature. WTF is that? Never heard of it before, always thought a game was a game. Anything I can do, or did I just drop 50 pnds on nothing? Thanks in advance.

Likely dropped 50 quid on a shiny coaster. I think you can mod your console to play all zone discs, but I'm not sure that would be worth it for one game.
Maybe sell it on ebay or something and recover some of your cost.

The game sounds good and I have played soccer in the past. I don't follow it at all but it sounds like a great game. How does the season or career mode play? Can I just pick a team and go through playing the regular season and then championship matches or do I need to take on a manager role to and add/remove players. I'm not so good at that.

from the sounds of it, you may enjoy Football Manager. difficult game to find here but dangerously addictive. don't say i didn't warn you, but it has the potential to destroy your social life. i've been able to win the uefa cup with legia warsaw, but have troubles at the champions league level. hopefully things will be easier as feyenoord rotterdam just hired me at the club level and the usa national team has also offered me a job.

I assume the version of the game is for the PAL region rather then NTSC region. It's not compatible with your system thus you cannot play it. You need to have the NTSC version of the game.
You should try contacting custom support and see if you can get it replaced with a NTSC copy.

What console is this for? I thought I read somewhere that PS3 is region-free, but I have no idea about XBOX.

Xbox is region locked to NTSC and Pal but PS3 Blu ray's are indeed region free.

Not a great simulation (bad AI) if you can do that.
