Easy way to do it.
Crown
Salad (who cares if it's lettuce/onion or onion/lettice)
Bacon (if it's there)
Cheese
Meat
Condiments
Heel
the only way to keep the condiments in check is to put them between the two most high friction elements of the burger and that's the bun and meat.

Also the bun should be lightly buttered and toasted on the grill.

I like to put the cheese on first and then slap the patty on top of that as fresh from the grill as possible - melts the cheese, providing a gooey final layer of taste experience (sometimes the cheese will be placed on the patty on the grill to melt it, in which case the order of the patty/cheese is reversed).
Ketchup/mustard/relish/mayo/etc I layer on top of the patty and use the glue-like consistency of this layer to hold in place slices of pickle, onion, and tomato (sometimes hot pepper); a leaf of lettuce goes over that, with the curve of the leaf going down so as to provide further security to the middle layers.
I am totally making myself some BBQ'd burgers tonight.

Maybe I should get a syringe and inject mustard into the patty.

How about two patties that are concave? Put them together with the concave edges facing each other and fill that space with mustard.

This, but without the onions, because onions are the work of the devil.

I dislike having any condiment between the heel and meat, I find that the meat is the heaviest, flattest item and it squishes the condiments out

I've always wondered why people put lettuce on a burger. Do you lay some lettuce across a fine steak and eat that, too? It's like ogling a hot woman but insisting that she be wearing a yarmulke.
