Well, here is the thing.... people in Ontario and in Quebec and many parts of BC DON'T WANT HARPER TO HAVE A MAJORITY. Hell, most of us don't want him to have a minority.

There will not be an election this summer. Ignatief (I'll learn how to spell his name when he become PM) knows better than to go to war with a flimsy 2% lead in the polls, their #1 issue being "let's hammer home that the deficit is too big therefore we need to spend more", and them just barely paying off their bills from the last election. We know this year is going to be a deficit. Next year is going to be a deficit. Next year the Liberals can bring out their charts showing that under Liberal government this country routinely had surpluses and Conservatives ran deficits (U.S. caused recessions be damned). If they had an election now there would be a lame-duck Liberal minority government. Wait 12 months and there is a shot of a Liberal majority or perhaps a Liberal-NDP coalition government (though that is less likely with Ignatief at the helm).

Which past leaders of the Liberal party have you been impressed with?

I dont know... anytime someone says voting is an inconvenience it bugs me.

I agree that an election any time this year or even next year may be a waste. But I kind of like elections and we won't know how good Ignatief is until there is a campaign. Has to come sooner or later.
Ah I see. In the battle of sooner vs. later, I would much rather it come later.

That the issue, the last Liberal government that I voted for was Trudeau. Other then that the last series of Liberal leaders have been awful. And honestly up to Harper the last impressive leader for the Conservatives would have been Mulroney.

This country has had a dearth of strong political leaders that inspire and lead this country. I blame the education system because it seems like Canada just doesn't build good leaders.

And god forbid there's a Liberal majority, I'd rather have a series of minorities since I think that the Liberals would be doing the same thing as the Conservatives in terms of recession handling.

The question is, if Ignatief fails to win the next election, does he give up his dream and go home to Harvard? I still see him as a caretaker Liberal leader.

How do you take credit for something that happens when you're in opposition? The Liberals need to take power before the economy recovers.

I agree.

This is getting ridiculous. How many no confidence votes is it going to take to bring down the conservatives? who knows, but honestly, the opposition should stop trying this pathetic tactic until they have a candidate that the voters actually have confidence on.

Uh, didn't the Conservatives call the last election (which not only was against a law that they just passed but also failed to change the makeup of parliamnent)? And didn't they make almost every bill a confidence motion the last parliament? Why is it ok when the Conservatives threaten to bring down parliament but not the Liberals?

As long as we have a 4 party system there will most likely be minority governments for the forseeable future.

I can't see a majority government in my lifetime.

Canada might just split up into 4 countries before that happens!

It sure looks like it. We have elected 3 consecutive minority governments yet none of the parties knows how to handle this new reality. Hopefully they eventually will figure out that compromise and cooperation will get more of their polices passed than partisan politics will. Unfortunately, I can't really see any of the current leaders allowing this to pass on their watch.
