Put me down as not wanting another election this year; as I don't think it will change the makeup of Parliament. Let alone it will stop the gov't from working for 5 weeks.

Then add the fact that 20-25% of the population is on vacation at any given point in the summer.

I agree with the premise, it would be political suicide for the Liberal's to pull the plug and call for an election during the summer, especially since I doubt that they would add much more to the recession strategy that the Conservatives are using.

Except that EI reform is a stupid thing to call an election over.

I won't be voting or paying attention to another election in our newly turned banana republic "democracy." Maybe the babies should stop bawling for attention and get back to representing the citizens of Canada in a dignified manner.

What bothers you about it? I'm not arguing, i'm just curious. I'm tired of these idiots calling elections that have very little chance of providing anybody a majority. Attention paid to useless elections is attention that would be much better served elsewhere. Like running the damn country.

That having an election is a burden especially in the summer when people have better things to do. We should be enjoying our summer and ignoring politics etc etc...

I dont know... anytime someone says voting is an inconvenience it bugs me.

I agree that an election any time this year or even next year may be a waste. But I kind of like elections and we won't know how good Ignatief is until there is a campaign. Has to come sooner or later.

Well he'd better step up as leader of the opposition first, because I haven't been all that impressed with what he's done. I'd like to see him doing something productive.

The conservatives had better hope that's a widespread feeling. The reason the Liberals are licking their chops a little right now is that the Tories are eroding in the polls, and their situation is much worse than the national numbers indicate. Nationally, an almost 10 point lead for the CPC is now a slight lead for the Liberals, and their regional performance in Quebec and Ontario ought to be very alarming indeed to Harper. (Indeed, launching attack ads against an opposition leader when there's no election on is a clear sign of panic. It's a move with dubious upside and a likely huge downside.)

With that said, three major caveats. 1. We'd likely be exchanging a Tory minority for a Liberal minority. 2. The polls also contain bad news for the NDP, so they're very unlikely to help the Liberals topple the government. 3. The Liberals have no money, so their appetite for an election is probably going to be short-lived once they figure out what it will cost.

All of that adds up to no election this year. I'd guess Harper will be in until next fall.

That's just it. Even if they were blabing for 4-6 weeks you have the choice not to listen

An election is exactly the amount of burden that each individual wants it to be.

I wouldn't call it a burden; I much rather your choice of wording when you created the thread title. In will be inconvenient as opposed to being a burden. There is a difference in severity between the two words.

The only reason why I would want to see an election would to see the debate between Ignatief Harper and maybe Duceppe. Those three are very good at debates. Layton is wothless at debates and got exposed in the last election as a non entity who was saved by a weak liberal party. Hopefully the Green Party won't be allowed into any more debates as they are a zero impact party.

But a war between Ignatief and Harper has the potential to be very good.

It's summer, everyone is out side not caring about Parliamentary crap. And for craps sake, if the Liberals are going to call an election, call it after the majority of the economy has recovered and take credit for it.

I agree about Layton as well -- he adds nothing to the table and the NDP would be well served to ditch him as a leader. More often then not, he derails actual intelligent debates with random diatribes against Harper -- usually about baby eating or something.

Plus... he's bald. Hehe.

It is, in the summer. This is Canada, we don't have a lot of warm days in the year to enjoy, so we have to make the most of them. 4 - 6 weeks of election crap would seriously hamper that.

All these elections are doing is stagnating the govt that is already in place. Give Harper one term as majority and if he can't get anything going then it's election time. This beigy grey crap of a government we've been force fed is just irritating.
