About the same on my participation in the lottery. When it gets big, I'll buy a quick pick. I'm not going to miss $3 if I lose, and hell, if I come away with $10, then I turned a profit!

			I'm in the same boat. When it's over $20M I buy a $10 ticket.
It's worth the $10 just to dream about what I'd do with that money before my dreams come crashing down at draw time.

Just to put it into perspective, $49,000,000 would buy approximately 1400 killograms of 75% pure Cocaine.
 or 490,000 $100.00 hooker tricks.

Or you could split it in half and get 700 kilo's of cocaine and 245,000.00 $100.00 tricks

Yeah exactly, the lottery elitists who roll their eyes and make the "bad math" and "tax for the stupid" just don't get it.
I'm not investing my hard earned $5 or $10 because I'm expecting a return on the investment, I do it to dream about the what if scenarios. I'm not going to miss $5 a week.

Exactly.

I drop $10 or $15 for a chance to win $50 Million.

I'm OK with that. I know my odds are crazy bad, but really...if I did win...wow.

I think there are ~ 14 million combinations for 6/49. So assuming you played all of the numbers; the tickets would have cost you $28M and you would have netted about $27M in prizes.

There's no guarantee of that. It's possible for no one to get the right combination of numbers.

yes, i know the odds are bad, but I can't bear to see the office win without me. That would be demoralizing coming into work and seeing half the office retired. Even if the odds are 1 in 14 million. (although that drops if we're sharing numbers, i think it ended up being 1 in 500 000)

So they're indeed from Edmonton, eh? Wouldn't it be funny if during the interview they publicly announce that they'll cover the cost of paying out Lowe's contract if Katz will fire him?

I don't think it is. I believe if you win the lottery they pay you in installments over 25 years, but I could be wrong.

If you take the lump-sum payment, it's the present value of all the future installments.
