Yeah but I find that cops do stuff like this all the time.
I had a client who got sued by a former landlord who had a police officer track him down for him and had the cop go to his door in uniform to pressure him into paying for damage to a property that my guy had vacated. This wasn't a criminal investigation either and the cop would have known it, it was a civil case that the police should not even be involved with. I very nearly reported the officer but ultimately decided not to
