By the way Troutman, she saw your post and was bugging me about the "Is she just a good girlfriend" part

I told good enough to take her to a place like Eden

Thanks for the advice guys. After this trip, it'll be canned soup and instant noodles for the month of March...
Sucker. The only place in Banff you should eat is Phil's.

Good choice on Eden. I recommend the earliest sitting as it still gets dark fairly early and there is some great views (especially if you get a window table in the back section). Plus it can take a couple of hours depending on what you order, so you'll get back to town fairly late.

Ha, I actually eat breakfast there sometimes because of the hashbrowns. Hashbrowns at Melissa's are gross.

I concur with this. I haven't had a bad meal there, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Is it just me or is Melissa's really good sometimes and really bad other times?

One last plea - save the $380 and take her to Bolsa - I assure you the food will be better and it will be more exciting.

Yeah, I would say so. But I'm usually there for a hangover breakfast or I'm drinking upstairs, so I might not be the best one to ask

Guido's is a great Italian spot. I always recommend this spot.
Grizzly house is completely overrated, there is much better fondue house in Canmore (name escapes me).
The Stump is not bad, but has been around forever thus the locals don't go there.
Saltlik is pretty good.

Other than that, like most say - if you want to go to a great restaurant in Banff then go to Canmore.

BUMP

Just wanted to thanks CP for the advice. We went to Fuze, and it was great. The Chef is East Indian, so the featured menu items all had some Indian influences to it. We went with the Chef's tasting menu and that was a great choice.

- Starter - Fresh Oyster starter - raw, with diced cucumber, garlic, and vodka

- Course 1 - Pan fried (smoked?) BC sable fish in a creame fresh sauce -favourite course, the fish was done just right, and for a cream sauce, was surprisingly light

- Course 2 - Pork Belly in a Asian influenced soy and ginger sauce - Taste like Chinese food, but the pork belly was tender

- Palate cleanser - Malt wine sorbet

- Course 3 - Surf and turf - A slice of Beef tenderloin with a lobster tail (shell removed) drizzled with Hollandaise sauce on a potato patty - We were pretty stuffed at this point. Good standard dish, but nothing to write home about.

- Course 4 - Cheese platter with all the fixings - Brie, Gorgonzola, and some Spanish aged cheese (not the greatest fan of cheese platters)

- Course 5 - Pineapple Ravioli - 2 thin slice of pineapple poached in brand with a mango and mascapone cheese filling between them - Heavy dessert but quite creative

We declined on wine but wine pairing was available for an extra $45 per person (a different flute with every course (5)). The Martinis were quite good though, but I forgot what was in mine

Overall, very impressed with the place and the service we received. It was a special that night with 3 other birthdays and 1 couple that just got engaged. With 2 martinis, our Chef's tasting for 2 came to be about $225

Got to save up to try Eden next time

We wife's Christmas party was at Fuze. I agree the service was really great and the food was really good. I had the trio of tartar and the Thai style risotto of shellfish.

I drank about $250 in wine that night so I was highschool drunk by the end of the meal. The waiter kept filling both my red and white wine glasses and I didn't have the heart to tell him to stop.

So just wanted to bump this thread as we're going to Banff/Canmore this weekend. Any new recommendations these days (the current thread opener was from 2009)?

I always hear Canmore has better restaurants than Banff....but which ones in particular? Looking for something good, but not too stupidly priced. There has to be something decent in Banff....what about that Waldhaus place by the golf course?

Fuze is gone now. It's the Banff Ave Brewing Company. I went there before the City and Colour concert in January. Later that night I got slapped by a dude at Sasquatch but that's a story for another thread.

They make really good beers and have a wide selection. Probably the best IPA I've ever had and a really good black Pilsner, a style I have never tried before. Food was pretty decent for a brewpub.
