And maybe hang around people that are roughly in his own age group.

She was given the maximum sentence allowed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act: six years in custody at a psychiatric hospital, where she is undergoing extensive rehabilitation and treatment in a special $100,000-a-year program, followed by four years of supervision.
She will be free at age 22. Her record will follow her for another five years, until she is 27.

Wonderful Mr. Steinke can expect to be released sometime around the age of 50.
He has ruined his own life in addition to taking 3 innocent ones.
I think even death is deserved here, or even just lock him up and throw the key away, but I'm not at all disappointed if he only serves 25 years. That's a very long time, his life is ruined. And he'll do hard time.

What a slap in the face to the victims. If I ran this county, those two would be subject to a public be-heading, live on the 6 o'clock news! Then the locals can urinate on the bodies..........

There were rumors circulating that she might come to Calgary to testify in the case, but I'm not sure if the Crown wanted her or the defence. I wonder why she never did...if it was for the Crown, I guess they had a lot of evidence?

As the parent of four kids, it's the murder of the little boy that just infuriates me. It's too bad the father didn't take a baseball bat to Steinke when he first started snooping around his daughter.

Agreed.
I still dont understand how a 12 year old gets involved with a 23 year old though. Bizarre and disgusting.

It's hard to believe they could get together, that's a bad mix right from the start. If not we probably have a young girl growing up and getting past the restrictions imposed by her parents.
I'd be suprised if this guy makes it to the end of his sentence.

While its nice to hope that prison rehabs people, it rarely if ever happens.

I dunno. 25 years? Something tells me that there'll be a guy or two in the can that have 12 y/o daughters. I wonder what they're going to think when they meet Mr. Stienke.

Can anybody explain why the fact that he committed three murders doesn't increase his sentence? As I understand, he will have chance for parole in 25 years, so the sentence is essentially the same regardless if you commit first degree murder against one person versus three?

Easy. Parental responsibility. If you dont keep your kids active in sports/clubs/school teams etc etc the chances are very high your child will find another way to amuse themselves. This leaves the young girl free for the picking by scum like Jeremy. Maybe the parents didnt know she was seeing this guy...or his age. Its quite possible that she hid it and saw him on the sly? I dont know all the facts though. Some parents think its just okey dokey to never say no to their kids and to allow them to find "their way" on their own. Its BS and those parents are always the ones crying the loudest when their little angel shows up home pregnant or in jail.

That's what I also don't understand. If somebody enters a house to kill somebody (in this case the parents), there is absolutely no incentive for that person to leave the son alone- alive he could be a witness, but dead he cannot be.
Shouldn't the penalty also reflect the severity of the crime? And isn't killing 3 people a lot worse than killing one?

She did but I believe he was still held responsible because he killed the father and the father would have stopped the daughter from killing the son.
