Might take a while. Although Metallica has heard good things about this internet, they're taking a bit of a "wait and see" approach to see how things pan out.

I'm not sure you can call it a wait and see attitude in terms of embracing the idea, since they are releasing their new album as DLC for Guitar Hero: World Tour and GH3, and more of a wait and see who they should throw in with. Given the evidence, I'd say any full Metallica albums would be on GH.

That's true and I remembered (vaguely) reading something about that after I had posted my sarcastic comment.

Wikipedia also says (when I looked this up) that they are making a Guitar Hero: Metallica, just like the Aerosmith one.

Yeah, it should be out early next year. But Metallica's also never confirmed that like Aerosmith that they've signed an exclusive deal to only be in Guitar Hero. I'm not even sure where to look for proof but I've heard more than once that they dont really want an exclusive deal cause they dont want to force their fans to choose either game in order to play their music.

I'm sure that being non-committal is probably the best policy for their own interests as well. If this is true and they release their stuff multi-platform then that's great news for Metallica fans.

Thought I'd give this one a bump given the release of GH WT yesterday.
I assume someone around here picked it up. How is it? Anyone's thoughts are appreciated.
My wife and I have been playing RB2 (with imported RB1 songs) and GH3. I like RB as much as anyone on here, but I find the charts for GH3 are a bit more challenging and follow the songs a lot more. Case in point, I can play on "hard" in RB little difficulty whereas I have a much higher failure rate in GH3 on "hard".
I'm sure we'll get GH WT, unless people are having a nasty experience with it. I suppose we will wait until Boxing Day of after as it might be difficult to get before Christmas.

Ahem: http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/10/24/ I've heard that Rock band in general is just a better designed game. However, if either one gets exclusive access to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", that pretty much settles this debate.

I've played both (GH:WT and Rock Band 2) and I'm still a fan of Rock Band. Guitar Hero doesn't seem natural like others have said and also it gets way to difficult. I know on the last GH I had to spend hours and hours practicing certain songs and I still couldn't beat them on expert, a friend and I spent forever trying to complete co-op GH3 on expert to unlock all the songs and we couldn't finish it and it's not like we were bad we are both really good.
Maybe I have the wrong mindframe but with these games I want to be able to play them casually and be able to progress to where I can beat them on expert which I can do with Rock Band but GH I had to spend hours to be able to beat the game on expert.

Haha that's one song I have been waiting for!
I don't think either will get exclusive access to it though - for instance, "Any Way You Want It" has now shown up in both GH 3 and Rock Band... if anything I will bet it will show up on both games, just like Livin on a Prayer.

Can anyone provide a review on the instruments this go around?
IE Guitars vs. Guitars, and the drums against eachother? Can't decide which has the better guitars, and more importantly which has the better drums.

IGN had quite a few complaints about GH:WT, even saying it wasn't up to par with RB1 (let alone RB2). Other reviews have been more position. Game rankings has a list of various reviews. GH:WT can be found here:
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/944201.asp
and Rock Band 2 here:

Personally, I like RB2 a lot more as its more true to the music. GH has a tendency to make things harder for the sake of difficulty (playing chords when the artist is playing a single note, 50 note hammer-on streaks when you can hear the guitarist strumming), which harmonix is more true to the song (most of the staff are musicians). Also, Rock Band has a large advantage in DLC, with over 500 downloadable songs by the end of the year (not including the 55 songs you can import from RB1 to RB2). The instruments are cross compatible so that's no longer an issue and i've heard good things about the GH drum, but i've also heard that the touch pad in the GH guitar is flaky and randomly registers note presses, which can be annoying.
Gameplay wise, GH is also a little annoying in that you can't save your band member if they fail out (which means the whole band fails). Also, single play progress and band progress are not linked, so if you've unlocked a song in single player, and then just into multiplayer, that song won't be unlocked.
Overall, I'd consider RB as the more casual game, better for parties as it is more forgiving, which GH is more for the players wanting a challange.

Anyone able to pick up just the Guitar Hero World Tour game (for the 360)? I'm not interested in getting the whole kit as I only like playing the guitar portion. I plan on using my RockBand 1 guitar until I can find a really nice wireless guitar.

As far as I'm concerned, these two points completely dropped this game off my radar. I liked the songs in GH III, but the addition of boss battles and the ridiculous difficulty really damaged the franchise in my eyes. I totally agree that often times it feels like the note charts have added notes in them purely to ramp up the difficulty. If a guitar part is simple I want it to play simple, not be packed with un-played notes.

Has anyone seen the band kit (drums etc) in Calgary?
I checked the major stores in the NE and nothing.

Yes mykalberta, I did see the band kit in Calgary yesterday when I was at EB Games at Westbrook. I think they were holding them all for pre-order customers, however.
I also heard around the office that EB Games at Chinook also had some, but they didn't have enough to fill all their pre-orders. The guy I talked to was pretty choked about that.

it really depends which console you need... if its PS2 or PS3 you might have a shot... ditto with 360. If you're looking for the Wii... you're in for a serious crusade.
I had to line up Sunday morning to get mine.
