Rock Band 2 vs Guitar Hero World Tour
Ok so we all know these are two of the most anticipated games of the fall, correct?
What I'm trying to figure out is which one to buy. I originally was going to see which one is going to have Everlong since I heard it was going to be on one, but its on both. Looking over the song lists on both, they both have killer and tempting songs. So I can't go off of that.
My questions to you wonderful people of the internet are;
Which is the better buy? And are the drums, guitars, and mics transferable?
Lets see what info we get out of this.
Edit: Sorry Photon, shoulda realized this should be in Tech Talk

Somebody will have to confirm, but I'm pretty sure all instruments are transferable for both ps3 and 360. As for what instruments are better, it seems to boil down to personal opinion. A lot of people seemed to really dislike the rock band guitar, but I found it incredible.
This year the drums look pretty different. Personally I like the look of the guitar hero drums better because of the cymbals. I know the rock band set has them (as an add on), but the fact that mad catz makes them really turns me off (I hate almost everything they create).
In the end, I prefer the developers of the rock band series (harmonix) over the guitar hero people. I'll probably buy both games and just use my rock band 1 instruments.

IIRC, you're a real guitarist, right Foo Fighter?
I've found that Harmonix (developers of the Rock Band series, plus Guitar Hero 1 and 2) know how to make note charts that feel much more natural and similar to playing real guitar than Neversoft (creators of Guitar Hero 3, Aerosmith, and World Tour). Playing Guitar Hero 3 on Hard or Expert is painfully difficult, and the note charts seem designed to be excessively challenging to play, rather than being a semi-accurate simulation of playing a real guitar.
Since the instruments will all be compatible with both games, I'll likely end up getting both, but I've spent WAY more time playing Rock Band 1 than I have with Guitar Hero 3 and will likely do the same with RB2.
Also, RB2 will allow you to import all the songs from RB1 (including the 200+ songs that are available for download), so it's a great value.

Completely agree as a fellow guitar player. I seem to have a much harder time playing GH than RB for some reason. I can play most songs on hard and a few one expert in RB but on GH hard is almost to difficult for me

The point about the guitar realism is so true. After Guitar Hero 2 I didn't really get into GH3 because I felt they got away from the nature of the game and just tried to make it hard. So I never really played guitar much in Rock Band.
I just play drums in it now, and thats my main intention with the next one. But if they are compatible I probably will get which ever one has the better drums, and then but the disc for the other.

back to the original question, since the instruments are compatible, I'd probably pick up gH4 bundle and rock band 2 standalone game (and rent rb1 so you can copy all those songs). Red Octane's instrument quality is better. personally, i fine rb the better game as the note charts seem to flow much better. GH tries to be hard just for the sake of being hard. they randomly add notes where there is nothing played and stuff. I'd also take a look at RB's past downloadable content to see if there is lots of stuff you like, as ultimately, DLC is how your going to add to your song collection.
so in conclusion, if you have money, get gh4 for the instruments (and give the game a go) and get rb2 (and 1) for the music. If you absolutely had to pick only 1, then go Rockband.

I've found the above link to be useful. I'm stuck with only a Wii so it doesn't look like, at least not yet, that instruments will be compatible with both Rock Band 2 and the new Guitar Hero.

I think only 360/ps3 (ps2 doesn't have a harddrive, right? hence no DLC for RB1 on ps2?)

ya, I believe the wii and ps2 versions got a disc of dlc made available to them for rock band to get around the whole hard drive issue.
I have heard something about rb2 working with memory cards for the wii dlc. Not 100% but I'm sure I heard it somewhere.

Vicarious Visions told nintendowiifanboy that DLC will be available for the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour.
Not to be outdone, Harmonix promised DLC on the Wii as well.
I'm a bit skeptical as to how this will all work out. It was previously thought that games couldn't save to or access a memory card. Both products are hoping to prove this is not unpossible.

yeah, i'm curious to see how they get around the harddrive limitation for the wii. It has an SD slot and usb, but nintendo so far has refused the sd card access in games and don't seem to have plans to allow external harddrives to be used. I guess they could have a steaming service, but the sound/video quality would probably be pretty poor or you'd have to pre-cache the songs.

I'm going with RB2. I'm more of a vocalists and RB seems to have done a good job with that.

Some are not bad choices but I was hoping to see Master of Puppets somewhere in there. I doubt I'll get the whole album of any of those but I'll probably get certain songs.
