Can any recommend a good sedation dentist? I haven't been for a while I probably need a lot of work done. Plus I'm a coward.

Oh and does anyone have a better idea on how much it costs over a "regular" dentist?

I'm going to go OT for just a sec, because this reminded me of the most classic one-liner I've heard in a long time, from my wife of all people, who you normally wouldn't get it from...

Do you guys remember those commercials on the radio a couple of years ago where it ended with a line like "What can sedation dentistry do for you?"

We were driving around in the car one day and heard that commercial and my wife rips off "Get you pregnant?". I was driving and having a Coke at the time and almost had an accident shooting Coke out my nose at that one...

As for a good dentist (non-sedation) Dr. Bob Hawkins at Acadia Dental is great and has a really good staff as well. But it's not exactly NE or NW. (Heritage and Fairmount)

I would also appreciate any tips on this sort of thing as my chompers are in need of some repair.

Ok, so I'm still looking for some info on this sedation thing. I finnaly hauled myself into the dentist last week (The one in the basement of the Inn on Lake Bonivista) as a small part of one of my upper wisdom teeth broke off and wanted to get it dealt with. Turns out I have to have both my upper wisdom teeth yanked. I asked about the sedation thing with the dentist there and what she told me is this, she is not a fan of it as most dental offices don't have a crash cart. She went on to say if I did want to be sedated, she would have to bring in an anisthesiologist and that would cost a cool grand. WAY to much to justify. So what I guess she was getting at is the sedation most dentists use is a good gassing, no anisthesiologist. Yet yesterday I was talking to a buddy of mine who had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled with sedation and it cost him only $400. Now obvisouly there were some benefits paid out but I would really prefer to go this route.

Has anyone here actually done this? Where did you go? Cost? Help?

Dr. Westersund is good, he is in the Husky building and does sedation dentistry. I have done it before, anyways you can check out his website.

In Vancouver, you would typically get referred to a specialist in SD to have wisdom teeth extracted. It was 10 years ago that I had mine done and it was just under $200 then (not covered), so $400 sounds realistic.

I've been going to Dr. Donlevy for probably 10 years now, she's a really great dentist who treats her patients incredibly well. Although, not all of the hygienists are hot...

He's my dentist and he is a very good dentist. I can't speak to the sedation dentistry aspect of it, since I have never had that done.

Man, I wouldn't care if it was Medusa doing the work as long as it's goes as smoothly/painfree as possible.

I have no idea, that is the only place I have had sedation dentistry at but I'm still alive so I guess it works!

I also highly recommend Sunshine Dental. Although by far my favorite dentist there is Dr. Raj Aurora. I think Dr. Chow took out my wisdom teeth and he was OK.

And they have TVs on the ceiling you can watch while they work on you. It might not be a good idea to watch Flames games though...I imagine if they score you might shout out...which might hurt with a bunch to dental equipment in your mouth.

about the only thing that could distract me from what's goin on in my mouth would be some pron. I don't see them accomadating that request.

So I have no dental insurance in Canada, but a my dentist (from Detrix as well actually!) does all my cleaning/checkups whenever I'm home. I'm supposed to get some wisdom teeth removed....anyone have idea how much such a procedure costs? Yes, I am asking them too, but i demand answers now!

So are you asking how much it costs here without insurance? Or with?

Either way I have no idea. Mine was covered by health insurance .

When I had my two upper ones removed, the invoice showed $350/tooth (I'm sooo in the wrong line of work) for $700 total. My dental plan covered just over half of that. I get a cheque back for somethinng like $450.

I was told that the upper ones are easier to remove then the lower ones so it's very possible that the cost/tooth for the lower ones is higher. I was told at the same time that sometimes, very minor surgery is required to get the lower ones out, thus adding to the cost.

Interesting, that actually doesn't sound to bad. With my now american health care cost frame of mind, i though it would be in the thousands.
