My younger brother was in Southcentre mall when the power went out and of course I asked him if he immediately started looting. He went and bought flowers. Pansy.

So here's my question, and hopefully somebody can answer it for me.
I left for work late today so got to watch this all unfold on Global. Most of the issues were with the traffic lights being on red flash- turning intersections into 4 way stops. But the question is this; if there is power to make the lights flash red; why isn't there power to make them run normally?

I wanted to kill people on the drive in this morning.
This is different from my regular Monday commute where I usually just want to maim people.
Edit: ken0042, if there's power to make your clock radio flash 12:00 over and over again, why isn't there power to make it run normally? (I would imagine the lights need to be re-set just like everything else)

The ones I saw werent flashing at all.. They were just dead.. One set on barlow at the esso tank farm, and another set by the old costco building on 11th street.. I saw a dump truck blow through the ones on 11th, luckily everyone else was using them as a 4 way and had stopped.

Thank the sweet spaghetti monster above for the invention of the 4-way stop! Could you imagine if the rule was to treat dead traffic lights as a roundabout?

When the power came back on after a couple of hours, I was amazed to see my own fairly intricate e-mail that I'd been working magically appear right in front of my face.
Thank the Lords of Kobol for that.

And yeah, Deerfoot was a mess this morning. I left Auburn Bay at 8:30 and turned off at 16th at 10. First, the whole south end was messed because the lights at Barlow and assumably anderson (acadia, bonaventure) were out, so traffic piled up all the way back to Deerfoot.
If cleared up at Glenmore, but then reverted back into bumper to bumper just over the Calf Robe.
Big accident at 17th. It took them about half an hour to move the cars and had the road just shut down.
I saw an unusual amount of cracked up cars on the sides of NB Deerfoot. Probably because so many people woke up late because of the outage and then started driving like morons to get to work on time.

I work in shawnessy and we were down for just over an hour. there was a ctrain that was stopped and it was blocking 162 ave. took about 45 minutes after power to come back for it to move. thought that would have sucked. luckily we arent to far from a cop station so there were directing traffic pretty quick at 162 and shawville.

Roundabouts work pretty damn good actually, problem is there are enough ######s who seem to have a hard enough time understanding a 4 way stop.
At the 5 way roundabout down in McKenzie town i would wager someone does something ticketable every 20 cars or so in there. Never seen such stupidity. How do all these people get their drivers license?

Hey, if I can get out of a lengthy phone conversation with my mother, I'll do it. I'm not proud.

Ha! I know how you feel. When I was in Italy, before calling my mom I'd be sure to have a full bottle of wine and at least 10 cigs handy. Usually my atlas as well so I could gaze at maps while she told me all about the liberals and what they were doing to ruin the country while I was away...

I left Deer Ridge at about 8:00 this morning.
Got as far as canyon Meadows and Bow Bottom.
Bow Bottom Trail north was a parking lot.
Did a quick right turn and went home for an hour.
Now I'm working late to make up for it.

Man, does THAT sound familiar. Add to that the inevitble lectures about weight, life, profession, money, what have you. I may borrow your bottle of wine trick.

Oh man... Have you ever uh-huh'd for ~5 minutes? Those are bathroom breaks, my friend. No kidding. I'd uh-huh, set the phone down gently, book it to the washroom and be back within 30 seconds to uh-huh again... After awhile I even got daring enough to let it all out and even wash and dry my hands. I even stopped running. She never noticed. (I love my mom!)
(sorry to de-rail thread)(I'll stop now)

Two sets of lights on Barlow, one at 114th Ave and the ones before that weren't even flashing red at 7:40 this morning. At least I didn't encounter any idiots, which I thought for sure I would have.
I had no clue what the hell was going on, but I figured since the one set of lights weren't working, the ones on Barlow and 114th probably wouldn't be working either. I was right.
