Default AVOID SOUTH CALGARY (if you can)

Just to let you CP'ers know if you don't already it is a "gong show" in the south, our office was without power for about 2 hours the Acadia, Bonavista, South Centre area around Anderson / Southland is a mess. Anderson Road is backed up and all roads near the area. Macleod Trail is also horrible. WAL Mart is closed, yes you heard me it is so bad the WAL Mart on Southland and Macleod is closed. Things are staring to get better but the traffic hangover is certainly still there. It was like something out of a movie at around 10:30 am sirens everywhere, a rush of cars, COPS trying to control tarffic, a few accidents along Macleod on 99th Avenue. Be safe as it's still a little slick.

A transformer or substation blew out in Douglasdale just as I was driving past it on Deerfoot. Everything was dead from there to Deerfoot Meadows. When I got to work, I was told there was just a momentary power flicker (that reset every computer in the building... yay!)

And rofl at the Walmart being closed.... so much for being open 24 hours a day.

We lost power for about an hour, and I lost a document that I had been working on for about 2 hours.

What was Wal Mart supposed to do? Rig up giant hamster wheels to generators and have employees take turns powering the store? No, they did what most businesses do when they have no power. They close the store because it is safer to do so and, in some cases, required by their operator's insurance.

Actually, I'm rather surprised that they don't have any kind of temporary invoicing system set up, li,e many other businesses have. But, as was noted, I was just making a joke.

I was wondering wtf was going on this morning. I was at work doing inventory counts until 4am last night and when I woke up this morning nothing worked... I just rolled over and caught a few more Z's though.

I heard on the radio that the initial sub station had a problem from condensation around 7:20am. At around 10:20am I guess Enmax had problems at around 5 sub stations that made a bunch of things south of Glenmore lose power. The Power was off for and hour and a half where I was. The kicker was on the radio Enmax said they would keep people updated via their website. I thought that was kind of funny.

Not to hijack the thread but there are 3 24 hour walmarts in calgary now. Westbrook, Shaunessy and Marlborough. The one on Southland is not 24 hrs. I am glad to have them open 24 hours though. Winnipeg has had one since Sept, so it was a matter of time before it came to Calgary.

Suprising that Calgary has 3 open 24 hrs, since this city is the worst in Canada for late night establishments.

Psh.. try victoria man, this city closes down at 10 pm.

What kind of weather are you guys having back home that's causing this mess? Chinook? Blizzard? Orcs?

Ah yes, who can forget the Orc blizzards of 1994.

My parents live in the Marda Loop area. Anybody know if the problems extend that far North?

According to Enmax all the power has been restored, but now we are relying on one line instead of 2.

Add Deerfoot Walmart to your list. It is also open 24 hours.

In other words, if everyone runs their dishwasher at the same time tonight, we're gonna be in the dark again.
