And as far as I know, the merger between the two is still probably going to happen. I have no idea though, how that is going to work as far as content goes. I have read that you will be able to pretty much choose whatever you want eventually.

There is also a Canadian news station called Canada 360.

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but unless it has changed, it is the worst channel on XM. They could be doing so much more with it, but they would rather put the station on a stupid loop that just repeats the news in such a boring fashion. A total waste of bandwidth.

If you are just buying it for hockey, the games are great, but the actual talk shows are brutal (imo).
There is one show with about 2-3 guys, and all I know is one is a red-head, because they keep saying that, and someone called the paperboy.
Anyway, its filled with "fake laugh" buttons, random circus noises, laughing hysterically at inside jokes about their last weekend... You can't even get 5 minutes of hockey talk without them sidetracking and going on some goofy noises tirade that has me reaching for my remote quicker than Russell Crowe can chuck a telephone.
It is seriously the worst show in the history of hockey talk.

And don't forget Eklund, I believe he's a regular on one of those shows. I haven't listened to that hockey 204 in a long time.

It's certainly not great, but I think that asessment is a bit harsh. Phil Esposito is on every afternoon and I enjoy his commentary and the same can be said for Bill Clement who is a regular guest.
Jim Tatti is brutal. I like "Boomer" although I have no idea who he is. Gary Green is good. The morning guys are pretty brutal and I think those are the guys you're referring to with the sound effects, etc.
Still, it's nice to get a rundown on the previous night's games and all the highlights on the drive into work.

On Sirius the best hockey talk is the Hockey Night in Canada show. Its a little bit Leaf-centric (which is shocking, I know!). But it is Canadian and not too terrible!
Some of the other channels do talk hockey, but not as much as last year when they had some games every night as well.

Question: For the hockey play-by-play, does XM also brodcast the pre, and post-game shows?

Yes, as far as I know. I've only tuned in to a pre-game once or twice, but I'm pretty sure it was there. What they do is pick up the feed from the home team. So you'll only hear Peter on home games.

Hockey is XM by a mile. When I was considering which one to get, it came down to which did I value more content from, NFL or NHL? In the end I decided that I have great in-depth NHL coverage already on my local radio, whereas the local stations are extremely lacking in NFL coverage(I live in Edmonton and the "sports" station is basically just a 24-hour Oilers station, even in the summer). So I went with Sirius. Don't regret it even for a second.
I've never heard XM's hockey coverage, and if you're a huge hockey fan and don't care much for the NFL then go XM. But if you are an NFL fan as well, I'd go Sirius. I just feel bad for NFL fans who don't know who Adam Schein is. WARM IT UP ADAM!!

Gotta go with Sainters on this one - although I wish Sirius had more hockey, it is awesome otherwise. And, the HNIC radio show that is on daily is very good. They get lots of commentary from the around the league and it's very informative - listen to it every day on my way home from work. Either way with XM or Sirius, you can't go wrong. You really don't see how terrible local radio is until you get satellite...
