XM satellite radio: how is it?
I'm considering getting XM satellite radio so I can hear all the NHL brodcasts and music it has.
How is XM? Is it worth it? Is the music repetitive at all?

They have a free 3 day online listening trial.

I tried it a couple months ago and didn't like it enough to pay monthly.

I've had XM for a year and a half now. I love it, listen to it in my jeep and online at work all day. Like any music station the music will repeat what's popular, but with as many music stations as it has you can listen to a new station everyday for a month and hear something different.

It gets my seal of approval. I haven't tried Sirius, but I'm sure it would be good as well.

I've had it for over a year now and really like it still. I like the streaming NHL scores when you're listening to the music channels. There are plenty of different genres to satisfy every taste. I enjoy listening to the different NHL radio broadcasts too. IMO, it is worth the monthly fee.

Agree with all the comments above. I listen to XM in my truck everyday and have a second reciever in my wife's truck. I listen online at work and she takes her reciever into work and uses the home kit on her PC. Never had any problems and the variety of music is outstanding.
Plus, Opie and Anthony make it worth every single penny.

As long as you are in Calgary or have clear view of the sky then I highly recommend XM.

I haven't listened to them in well over a year. Are they still as risque as ever?

I have had it since day one and it's well worth the investment. I love the 24/7 NHL channel and all the games. I also love Ron and Fez on XM202 from 12-3.
The music stations are also great. XM Radio is the only thing that makes my commute bearable.

There's 2 terrestrial repeaters in calgary. I can get a great signal in the basement of my building right downtown.

Which is why I recommend it if living in Calgary. It's absolute crap in Red Deer (no repeater).

XM hands down for hockey. They have an exclusive deal with the NHL.

I live in Red Deer and only have two places within the city where it's a slight problem and then only for 20 seconds or so when driving. I don't find the reception crap here at all. I work with about five other people with XM who have no problems here either. I've had no problem with XM in rural areas too.

I enjoy some American talk radio, so it's good in that sense. I believe XM also has CNN and Fox News, as well as some others. For those trying to decide between the two, it's best to go visit their official websites and view all the channels they offer. Make a decision based on which company offers more of what you want.
And as far as I know, the merger between the two is still probably going to happen. I have no idea though, how that is going to work as far as content goes. I have read that you will be able to pretty much choose whatever you want eventually.

As stated above, they have Fox and CNN x2 (also have Headline news) which I think is just audio ripped off their video channel feed. But they have BBC which is great too.

Which is why I've said as long as you have a view of the sky. I'm not able to use it in buildings which is where I use it the most. Edmonton is nice, can go anywhere and it works because of the repeaters. I might be moving to Red Deer and I'll be getting rid of XM if I do.
