Malarchuk is by far the worst. He could've died right there.

The amazing thing is, he was back playing before the end of the season.

Still, I don't know how Malarchuk isn't #1. Busted limbs are definately painful, but Clint could have DIED there. The man had a Wagner Power Painter jetting quarts of blood from his neck for the love of Jeebus. Quite the description on Wiki:
The notable incident occurred during a game on March 22, 1989 between the visiting St. Louis Blues and Malarchuk's Buffalo Sabres. Steve Tuttle of the Blues and Uwe Krupp of the Sabres collided at the mouth of the goal, and Tuttle's skate caught Malarchuk on the neck, slicing open his external carotid artery. With pools of blood collecting on the ice, Malarchuk somehow left the ice under his own power with the assistance of his team's trainer, Jim Pizzutelli. Many spectators were physically sickened by the sight with seven fainting and two suffering heart attacks while two teammates vomited on the ice [1] [2]. Local television cameras covering the game instantly cut away from the sight of Malarchuk.
Malarchuk, meanwhile, had only two thoughts: He was going to die, and he had to do it the right way. "All I wanted to do was get off the ice," says Malarchuk, now the goaltenders coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets. "My mother was watching the game on TV, and I didn't want her to see me die."
What saved Malarchuk's life—more accurately, who—was Jim Pizzutelli, the team's trainer and a former Army medic who served in Vietnam. He reached into Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the bleeding, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin suturing the wound. Still, Malarchuk came within minutes of becoming only the second on-ice fatality in NHL history
Thiesmann / Kaz looks like a Motrin Commercial by comparison.
I remember I was just a little kid (6 or 7) when I saw this watching the news with my dad, and I found it disturbing as a kid.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Moises Alou dislocating his ankle rounding 1st at the Big O circa 1997 or so while with MTL.
As he rolls over and back up and comes to a stop, he, and the TV cameras see his ankle at a 90 degree angle to his leg.
Disgusting.

Disgusting.
I was just about to bring that one up.

Another bad one was Mogilny snapping his ankle back in the early '90s. Just sickening to watch.

I can take blood and guts kind of violence, but seeing someones limbs get mangled like that is just way way too much.

I'm not a huge fan of watching extreme injuries, but I would actually pay money to see that one.
