Default Top 10 Most Gruesome Sports Injuries

as per Sports Illustrated. Clint Malarchuk's horrifying date with a skate blade is in there.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_...s.html?cnn=yes

Plenty of other injuries are mentioned in the comments section and I'd have to agree with the Dravecky pitch / forearm break as being one of the most sickening things I've ever seen / heard.

I'll never forget that Tim Krumrie injury. Good lord. That gave me nightmares for months. And I STILL grew up to be a football player.

The Shaun Livingston knee rupture from the other night is the sickest one I've seen yet.

Man that eye popping out one is seriously fracked up - as is the one of the wrestler breaking his leg - just dangling there.

I remember watching Joe Theisman's injury happening. And when they did a slo motion replay of the hit I nearly lost my lunch. Pretty gruesome.

I can't remember who it was, but a Devil Rays Pitcher had that happen, was told his career was over. He battled back, was starting his comeback in the minors, and suffered the exact same injury a second time.

Pitchers breaking their arms is just one of the most disconcerting things to watch.

Yeah but knowing that Cancer weakened Dravecky's arm and bone just somehow makes it....grosser. That and the sound was captured all to vividly as I recall....

Still, I don't know how Malarchuk isn't #1. Busted limbs are definately painful, but Clint could have DIED there. The man had a Wagner Power Painter jetting quarts of blood from his neck for the love of Jeebus. Quite the description on Wiki:
The notable incident occurred during a game on March 22, 1989 between the visiting St. Louis Blues and Malarchuk's Buffalo Sabres. Steve Tuttle of the Blues and Uwe Krupp of the Sabres collided at the mouth of the goal, and Tuttle's skate caught Malarchuk on the neck, slicing open his external carotid artery. With pools of blood collecting on the ice, Malarchuk somehow left the ice under his own power with the assistance of his team's trainer, Jim Pizzutelli. Many spectators were physically sickened by the sight with seven fainting and two suffering heart attacks while two teammates vomited on the ice [1] [2]. Local television cameras covering the game instantly cut away from the sight of Malarchuk.
Malarchuk, meanwhile, had only two thoughts: He was going to die, and he had to do it the right way. "All I wanted to do was get off the ice," says Malarchuk, now the goaltenders coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets. "My mother was watching the game on TV, and I didn't want her to see me die."
What saved Malarchuk's life—more accurately, who—was Jim Pizzutelli, the team's trainer and a former Army medic who served in Vietnam. He reached into Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the bleeding, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin suturing the wound. Still, Malarchuk came within minutes of becoming only the second on-ice fatality in NHL history

Thiesmann / Kaz looks like a Motrin Commercial by comparison.

Yeah, it makes me feel all weezy. I get very weak when watching sports injuries.

I remember the first time my cousin showed me a clip of Sid Vicious breaking his leg when he jumped off the second turnbuckle. Landed weird and the bottom portion snapped and bent sideways. I felt like I was gonna throw up.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Same here... I lost my stomach for pain videos a few years ago after I saw that skateboarder rupture his bag o beans on that grind gone wrong video.

Now, poetic justice videos are always a good watch. Like the one where the kid in the car hits the kid on the bike then smashes his melon into a parked car while laughing at his victim.

I've seen some but I agree with the Malarchuk one, that's seriously the most gruesome scene I've ever seen in a sports event. Everytime I watch it I get the same sick feeling in my stomach. It's that bad.

The only accident that I would consider more gruesome then Malarchuk, where he looked like he was puking blood from his neck, would be Owen Hart at Kemper Arena.

I cannot load the page as sportsillustrated is blocked for me here at work but can remember some of those. The one i am going to mention is not so much grusome but one that just makes men squirm. about 10 years ago an irish soccer player called Phil Babb was playing for liverpool i think and he slid after sprinting to save a goal. He was successful in that aspect but he then slid testicle first into the goalpost at running pace. Ouch!!
