Only 4 vs Nashville. Likely the real competition.

It isn't really team "Make Playoffs". It's team "Not Cheering For Losses".

The loss sucks, but past the first, Calgary felt like the better team tonight overall. Blues were hanging on for sure.

Coronato got the monkey off his back and looked sharp.
Huberdeau with a couple of nice plays.
Kuznetsov with 20 mins of ice time, looking good minus the one bad pinch.
Klapka was noticeable. Both he and Farabee had good chances by going to the front of the net.
Happy Andersson scored, and had a couple more chances.
Overall, a solid game except a 3-min stretch in the 1st period.

So …just a question for all those cheering the losses … what do the Flames do when losing, losing, losing finally destroys every ounce of energy, creativity and joy in the young players, including Wolfie? Got a plan for that?
Really…I want to know, because there’s a human aspect, too. (And yes, I’ve worked for a terminal organization…accountants always are the last to go….)

I've liked Klapka for most of the season actually. Brings things to the table that you wouldn't expect.

Klapka needs to play higher in the lineup and stay there

Ugh, and Buffalo too. There's a team that knows how to tank.

They get their joy back by watching McKenna and Dupont go to work in a Flames jersey

The Bruins own the league record for biggest season to season point drop between 2023 to 2024 going from 135 points down to 76 (59 point drop). To do that, the flames would need to finish with 37 points. Not likely to happen but I can’t remember ever seeing a team this bad before.

I don’t think it carries forward year to year. Most youth got some competitive games last year, so they had the experience if it does have a material impact going forward.
This year, the failings are because of lack of skill and poor roster-system matching. I don’t think effort is a problem with this team, I believe Huska has the crew working hard but they don’t have the skill to execute the way they need to when playing with such small margins.
Also, I imagine they’ll overcome the struggles much like every other team with young talented players. Go look at the Ducks this year, or the Blackhawks or the Sharks. They overcome it, because they’re professionals.

Interesting to see Klapka out there late in the game with the goalie pulled. I thought he had a great game, though he got a little over-zealous and negated a PP. Otherwise, I thought he was very strong.
Coronato's goal was impossible to stop. Just a rocket. He is going to be such a good top 6 option for the Flames for years to come, especially when they turn this team around.

Coronato would have tied it up if he hit the net at the end...goalie didnt move

If you look at other successful rebuilds, once you start drafting the elite talent and things turn around the players will be fine.
You might have some disgruntled vets who are mad because they thought we would be competitive. But you can trade them.
I would like them to open up the play more like they did later into this hockey game more often. Makes it less dull when players are scoring.

Don’t you think they need to acquire some talent to avoid losing? Rome wasn’t built in a day and frankly the players that will turn this team into a championship contender aren’t even on the roster yet, for the most part.

Seems to me a lot of people counting chickens before the eggs have hatched.

Not really. But I also don't really have a plan for them to be better this year either.
No chance should they be trading futures or prospects to improve them team. They aren't going to fire the coach. Hockey trades don't exist in the NHL anymore; especially not mid season.
So no real way to get better this year either, so might as well try to maximize the value of some assets and your own draft pick and go from there.

Then they get Stenberg, or Lawrence…who will in all likelihood, pretty much instantly become our best player.
This team has no top end skill outside of the crease.

Come on now, almost every game is within 1 goal in the third...the all time bad teams got blown out every game.
