Andersson has a typical high water contract season, before being traded at the deadline for a 1st and a young centre playing down the lineup of a Stanley Cup contender. Zary has his best season yet. Parekh improves the PP% to 25% and gets 40 points. The extra goals from Zary, Andersson, and Parekh, alongside the ongoing excellence of Wolf in net, propel the Flames to 97 points, enough for the final wild card spot in the West. Give me curtain number 3, Monty (not sure many here are old enough to know the reference).

I’d pick number 3. I think they will make the playoffs this year. We had a ton of young guys last year. I think they will all take steps. Some bigger than others. But enough to get us into the playoffs
Andersson is another guy who should be way better than last year.
No way Sharongovich could be worse either.

2. The team will surprise everyone by winning the Pacific. I said that before and I am sticking to it.

It's time for a bottom 10 finish. I think the wheels will fall off with Backlund, Kadri, Huberdeau, and Coleman all slowing down a bit. The Andersson trade will leave a big hole at D, one Parekh will take some time to fill. The backup goalies are going to be a lot more porous than Vladar leading to fewer points.
That said, I'm looking for the likes of Zary, Coronato, Pospisil, Frost, and Sharangovich to all have better years. With Bahl becoming an even better shut down D, and even providing some offense. Parekh Kuznetsov and Brzustewicz will be great additions to the D core before the year ends. Wolf remains as the great equalizer, he can either drag this team to the playoffs, or slump his way to a bottom 5 finish.

-Wolf has a 920% SV and 2.20GAA
-Frost ends up a 60pt player.
-Vegas deals with injuries and finishes bottom 10, win lottery, Flames Draft Mckenna.
-McDavid signs with Flames to play with Mckenna and a real chance to repeat as cup champs. Flames start a 5 year dynasty.
-Oilers finish dead last for 10 straight years but never win a draft lottery.

I'll have what he's having. Thats some strong stuff!
But I'm thinking more like #4. Maybe not even barely.

Option 3. I worry about back up goaltending being suboptimal if/when Wolf inevitably has a skid, but otherwise I think the Flames improve in all other areas over last season. I think Huska is an astute coach who will find ways to help the young roster evolve and continue to be difficult to play against and take points from. Conroy will stay consistent and find new homes for expiring contracts/vets while seeking out value reclamation projects that fit his target age group. I think we’re finally getting a team built on a solid long term financially sustainable foundation with an abundance of team controlled prospects who will provide good performance vs cost value for success. Hopefully Conroy & Huska don’t get poached by larger market teams before the Flames reach the ultimate goal (multiple times).

Flames finish bottom 5. Win lottery and draft McKenna. That would be the (realistic) dream.
McKenna and Parekh lead us to a cup one day. That's the hope!

Enjoyment wise for me these options really group into two tiers:
- Contender Tier: Options 1-2 are where the team is a contender, even when they don't win the cup. Cheering for wins is fun because you can see them adding up to a cup.
- Fodder Tier: Options 3-5 are where the team has no realistic chance of winning the cup barring a miracle run, so it is hard to care about wins or loses which are going to add up to nothing. Enjoyment in this tier has to come other things like individual player performance and team building.

If they don’t get in I would think Coleman and Andersson are for sure gone. If they don’t have better seasons I bet they try to offload Sharongovich and Farabee somehow as well. Not sure how they would pull those off though.
I have a feeling Kadri and Huberdeau aren’t going anywhere. Unless there’s some sort if offer they can’t refuse.

Fantasy hockey goalie, team win projections
Predicting Wolf gets 32 wins. Top prediction is Hellebuyck at 39. Flames back up(s) getting no love. Predicting 6 wins from the Cooley/Prosvetov duo.
