I think he got drafted much lower than his consensus slot, to me he seems like a steal value wise and then there are the similarities with Johnny. High risk High reward type prospect gets me more excited than the sam morton/Grush's of the world

I always reflect that there should almost be two lists, one that ranks star potential and one that ranks likelihood of nhl games/career. Honzek has higher star potential but imo lower potential of a career, whereas guys like kuznetsov and king and morton are imo no doubt going to have some nhl seasons.

King obviously has a fair amount of potential to make the NHL pretty quickly, but I'm not sure about moving him higher when Hoskin isn't even being discussed yet.

Hoskin is almost three years younger and put up a higher PPG in the NCAA. He did it in a less competitive division, but that kind of production as an NCAA rookie and at his age should still have him ranked around the same level as King.

Like Lane and Wyttenbach, he is one of the most intriguing prospects left on the board and he could take a pretty massive jump this year if he puts up points on a lesser team in a much more competitive division.

I voted Poirier here, but Hoskin will be interesting to watch this year for sure and should start getting some more votes.

Seems like Calgary might have gotten a gem in Wyttenbach. I think he’s next up for me. From the Dobber article Bingo posted earlier in this thread:

Out of curiosity how many players who play their D+1 season in the USHL end up making it too the NHL? Blake Wheeler did and his situation was quite different. But can't think of any others off hand. That part about Wyttenbach does concern me a bit.

I did vote Morton here....but at his age he's almost out if the prospect age. I think he'll see NHL games this year. Might even find a way to get 200 career games in the league. It's a tricky place here where there's like a 12% chance of any of these guys playing 40 games type of thing.

They announced a couple of weeks ago that Wyttenbach is going to play in Quinnipiac this season.

I've seen some fancy stat people say he could be a huge steal for the Flames where he was drafted. I've watched quite a few hilites of him and like what I see........good offensive skill, right shot winger, good shot, good passer, skating looks ok, and he seems to play with emotion. And I've seen interviews with him too and seems like a great kid. At this point of the rankings I'm going with who I see has the most potential IMO, and for me it's him. He could turn into a solid offensive forward.

Again, look at previous years. There is nothing wild about it, every year has a tweener in the 20's that play games for us. We probably wouldnt even lose Poirier on waivers, every team has these kinds of guys.

Maybe create a table from the final rankings with ceiling, floor, and most likely role/line and aggregate those scores.

Edit: Floor and most-likely would include AHL & Europe as options

Dammit Reggie- you stole my post, lol!! I've been wanting to put this up for the last 3 rounds. I voted Lane, but Bell is one of my faves- 6'4", skates like the wind, physical. He had a very non-descript first year of pro, but I'm rooting for him- he's underrated.

Everyone needs a nominee for the annual Josh Jooris award.

I was high on Bell last year but he didnt really seem to gain any traction through the year. Can anyone more familiar than i with the wranglers game to game comment?

Zarubin underrated here. His numbers were eyepopping last year. Picking him until he is gone. Wyttenbach and Hoskins are the other two left with reasonably high ceilings. Will move to them subsequently.

I'm not the best one to comment on this, but it seems to me that he wasn't playing many minutes due to being one of the youngest guys on the roster. I have also noticed that the 4th-line of the Wranglers seems to get less minutes than most 4th-lines. Same with the 3rd-line. I could be wrong....

The bottom two lines of the Wranglers definitely didn't get used much last year, but that was mostly, I think, because they had so many players called up, and so many injuries, that they spent a big chunk of the season with ECHL-grade filler on the bottom lines. Unfortunately, the AHL's official website doesn't appear to track time on ice, so I can't really confirm that suspicion with numbers. I did notice, when I got to see the Wranglers live, that they leaned heavily on their top players.

I do too.

When I look again at the AHL website, I see that 40 different players suited up for the Wranglers last season. Almost half those players counted as rookies under the AHL rules. That gives you an idea how depleted they were at times.

Not his turn for my vote yet, but I was also waiting to say… Parker Bell looked great on the ice and I noticed him most shifts. Kid can skate! He’s physical at both ends of the ice. If he had a good offseason and takes a bit of a step, could be a depth call up. In another year, he could be a good reason not to sign veteran 4th liner. He has the skating and tool box to move up to 3rd liner with experience and development.

Hope he had a great summer.
