Except he is never healthy. Signing him to that deal was a huge mistake. And I for one love it.

What other options exist though? There aren't many goaltenders around with the potential of Demko and I don't know if you want to run with Silovs for the second year in a row

Vancouver should have used the situation last year to pivot into a rebuild.
Trade Miller. Done
Imagine what they could have gotten for Petterson, Boeser, Demko & Hughes.
Unless Petterson goes into boss mode and Demko stays healthy - they will likely stay in the mushy middle until Hughes leaves as a UFA.

and then they are really screwed because they have an aging squad with about a dozen of players with some sort of NMC/NTC. Good luck with that.

Yeah, even though he had a solid playoffs a few years ago and then a recent awesome Calder Cup run, my no means does that mean he's likely to be a starter in the NHL. Goalies are weird, so he'll be fun one to follow.

Van is no good but developing and finding goalies may be one of the few things they do well

I agree. Silovs hasn't looked good in the NHL. You absolutely have to take Demko and Lankinen over Silovs.
However, Cali Panther Fan's other point, that Vancouver is no good, was spot on.

He isn't. He's getting better and he's still young and he can definitely get there, but right now he has two major flaws in his game that will be career defining if not corrected.
The Canucks are not moving Silovs because they don't think he will develop. He's just on the wrong time line for the team. Not ready to take the net now and by the time he is ready, the Canucks will likely be in a position where they can't use him properly.

Chase Stillman looks like a bad pick and isnt showing progression. Overall, underwhelming return but I think I like what PIT got more

It's like nobody in Canucksland has caught on that he's NEVER healthy. He wasn't even healthy when he was drafted. Canucks banking on the hope that as he gets older he will become more durable.
Smart.

What a bunch of BS.
They moved him because they would have lost him for free and didn't like the offers for Lankinen.

Uhhh, sure. It's BS, I guess. I don't think there was an attempt to move Lankinen. Silovs was the odd man out the moment the Demko contract was signed.

Silos was the odd man out for sure. I don’t think they managed the asset particularly well though. They walked into the scenario of taking table scraps now, or seeing him claimed in October.

He was never going to get as much as people wanted to pretend. Goalies just rarely fetch that much. Goalies with very little NHL track record tend to get next to nothing, even if highly touted. 4th and a long shot seem about right.

This is great news! Silovs was maybe Vancouver's most promising prospect. I was talking to a Canucks fan while watching the SCF here and we agreed that Silovs was looking like a bona fide NHLer even before he had the Calder Cup success. Glad he's neither a Canuck nor an Oiler now.

Silovs with his .861 SPCT was looking like a legitimate NHLer? He's got a lot of potential, but its a big jump.

Silovs was a 6th round pick. Canucks got a 4th and project prospect back. Pretty tidy work if you ask me.
Considering that we were offered a 3rd for Vladar (allegedly) and the return is good.
Silovs isn’t the right goalie for the Canucks right now. Can’t run with him as a tandem due to the aforementioned injury concerns.
