Flames currently have 1 projected True Star in Bader's model (Parekh, because goalies are not factored into the numbers shown here). Weegar is right on the cusp of qualifying in Bader's model, while Kadri and Huberdeau both fit the mold career-wise, but we know Kadri's age and we know Calgary Huberdeau.

The Flames have a long way to go.
Bader's model has 2.0 expected stars to emerge from the Flames 2023 + 2024 drafts. (Includes Hunter Brzustewicz). Zayne Parekh is one and another should join him. Also 5.9 expected NHLers (200+ NHL games played)

That's interesting.

Lets say Parehk and Gridin emerge as Baders defined stars.

Coronato could be in that class.

I image we should hit atleast another one over the next couple years since we have 4 1sts.

So in ~5 years we could have 4 stars + Wolf from the draft. That would be sweet. Then you can add another in trade or FA.

I don’t understand what is a star season? Look at Vegas 1 true star vs 7 star seasons in 2018.

A "star" season for Bader is when a forward produces 0.70 pts/g or better, and a defensemen produces 0.45 pts/g or better.

For reference Yegor Sharangovich had a star season last year according to this "model".

Conroy has a lot of faith in what he's doing and who he has in the organization.

I liked that he didn't see trading Andersson as a signal of a tear down. Specifically mentions Parekh.
I have no issue with going after top talent like Marner. Where the Flames always got themselves into trouble was going after less than top talent. Guys like James Neal, Troy Brouwer, etc...

I know that Marner lacks a hard edge, but he's an offensive force. I don't see him becoming a 60 point player on the Flames. The Flames have enough of an edge already, and they need that top offensive talent. There's very few players that are putting up over a PPG and have that playoff edge. Mark Stone comes to mind. A team should be surrounding a player like Marner, with the Colemans and Kadris.

If it’s off points it’s questionable for me. A guy like Forsling 31 points plus 33 #1 D on Florida. Just misses the cut because he doesn’t play the PP. But they don’t win the cup without him clamping down McDavid.

Bruins reportedly shopping the 7th OA pick. They have apparently talked to the Islanders about moving up or a roster player (article speculates it is about Noah Dobson). Article mentions they are talking to other teams about 7th OA too.

Quote:
“Based on what I’m hearing, their goal is to move up into the top five. But if they can’t do that, with the drop-off after the top five, they would like to use the seventh overall pick in a trade package that could get them a player for their lineup now,” an NHL source told RG last week.

So his model says, players playing good is critical for winning. Having players, who typically play good, increase your chances of having more players who are playing good, which therefore increases your chances of winning?

Not sure we need a model for that insight but cool.

The more teams in the top-10 open to moving their pick, the better

Not sure what the Coilers saw in the playoffs that make them think they need eight more years of this idiot?

Wonder if Boston would do 7 for Andersson and 32.

Use 7 and 18 to get 4 from Utah.

If Rasmus Andersson was 24 years old with 6 years left on his deal at a good number, this might make sense.

Not sure why people keep talking about Andersson to team X to get into the top 10. Boredom perhaps?

Andersson + 18 could be reasonable if the team doesn’t like the top 10. Two mid 1sts to get into the top ten but more like the 9th.

Or perhaps you should read that quote and try not to be abrasive with every post you make.

Maybe you are the bored one constantly logging into CP just to argue.

If a model only uses points to value dmen, that model is seriously flawed.

Pretty sure that Bouchard's agent's preferred model.
