Just watching this now.

He's definitely going after Marner. Anderssons likely on the way out, and the draft is gonna be wild.

Conroy has a lot of faith in what he's doing and who he has in the organization.

I liked that he didn't see trading Andersson as a signal of a tear down. Specifically mentions Parekh.

I am sure he will make an offer to Marner because it's expected, I don't think he has any expectations that Marner signs here. There is going to be double digit teams offering a contract to Marner.

I like this too, trade Andersson for futures and sign a UFA replacement or use some of those futures

net win...the more net wins the better. Doesn't need to be either or

To be fair, nobody thought Gaudreau was going to Columbus. Not even them. May as well take a shot at him

Flames can go after Marner all they want but there are going to be 20-25 more appealing destinations for him. He's the wrong target for them anyway.

I know they're difficult to find in free agency, but an elite center is an obvious need and has been for years. Decades, even. Marner is not that.

Elite centers don’t usually get on the market. You either draft one or you trade for one.

And the ones you trade for are not re-signing or waiving their trade protection for Calgary.

We all know what the team's ethos is about being bad enough to draft one, so maybe best to just let that dream die.

Well to be fair Marner could easily play centre if you had him work on his faceoffs. His whole game actually suits centre better than wing. He still isn't coming here though.

I don’t think the Flames are as far off as many seem to think. 2 points less than the Stanley Cup champs, five points off from the runners up. That’s a couple bounces.

The main difference is there are no current ELITE players on the team.

I don't think they're that close. If you look at the Panthers and compare, they're far from elite as a whole. You're right that they need a couple elite forwards, but the team still needs to define themselves as skilled grinders. They're developing.

Getting into the Playoffs, and doing damage in the Playoffs are two distinctly separate things.

Flames currently have 1 projected True Star in Bader's model (Parekh, because goalies are not factored into the numbers shown here). Weegar is right on the cusp of qualifying in Bader's model, while Kadri and Huberdeau both fit the mold career-wise, but we know Kadri's age and we know Calgary Huberdeau.

The Flames have a long way to go.

I don't trust those numbers. Says we only had 1 star back in 2004, when we clearly had 2.

It says right in there that goalies are not factored in.

I thought with Bader's model the Flames drafted a few future stars in 2024, not just Parekh.

It says in the post that goalies are not factored in, but even if you did, that list looks pretty apt.
