The best trades are the trades you don't make.
Or something like that.

Good GMs are patient and don't fall for the TDL hype just to make deals.

Glad they didn’t trade for depth. I was big on selling Anderson. I also think they wasted an opportunity on selling a winger at high costs. We have to many now and to many for next year. They are going to have to sell one in summer so why not now? There’s no way the plan is to have Zary on 4th line next year.

I hope they were atleast listening to offers on the vets.
I'm happy that they didn't make any rental acquisitions. That's a win to me.

The team in the middle of the standings didn’t get better or worse. I don’t think treading water was the right play today for fans of any approach. Kicking the can down the road for another season.

Imo complete inertia is one of the worst outcomes for any team on TDL day but at least they didn't make any stupid adds.

No sense entertaining lowball offers on our veterans.
The one thing I do have a hard time with is the Kadri to Avs situation and what that return would/could have been given how much Brock received.
With that said we knew Kadri didnt want to go anywhere and we were told by Craig that he wasn't trading him. What "could" have been will have to remain just that.
|
Although I'm not, I can live with Kadri wanting to be here and us respecting it since he has trade protection.
However, I fail to believe that we got lowball offers for our vets when every trade out there was premium. Just makes no sense unless we are asking for 3 1sts for Rasmus or 2 for Coleman.

Yeah I don’t see any problems with this. We don’t have any big name players who are upcoming UFA’s that we could’ve cashed in on. On the flipside we are not good enough to be buyers at the deadline.

Every year we say we are going to weaponize our cap space yet we see others do it and not us.
Can't believe this anymore if we put a huge premium that others don't.

Too bad they couldn't get involved absorbing $ for a pick.
But I also suspect Edwards wouldn't be a fan of it based on the lack of salary retention historically.

Great job by Conroy not carelessly expending any draft capital. Seemingly learned his lesson last year with the Okhotyuk move which is just fine for a first-time GM.
Done are the days of continually blowing assets to rent players who make no incremental difference. In isolation, none a big deal but in aggregate what a negligent waste of draft capital and no lessons learned.
8 games of Carpenter for a 5th.
29 games of Jarnkrok for a 2nd, a 3rd, a 7th.
17 games of Forbort for a 4th.
17 games of Gustafsson for a 3rd.
18 games of Fantenberg for a 4th.
9 games of Nick Shore for a 7th.

Yeah that's what I don't get either. Other teams are getting overpayments but Flames only able to get low ball offers.
Seems to me like it's more that Flames just weren't willing to actually be open to discussions and negotiations to try to unlock more of that value.
