I hope we play with snakes all season. That snakes are all we talk about. That slithering ascension up the playoff tree is all we see.

Last night's win moved the Flames to a 2-0-0 record and kept it on pace for an 82-0-0 season. The red snake is 1.659 points above the black line and 2 points above the purple snake. A record of 46-35-0 (94 point pace) would give the Flames 96 points on the season.

Well, as the season progresses into mid-October we are still the best team in Canada. Will it last? probably.

Yesterday's win took the Flames' record to 3-0-0. They continued their pace for an 82-0-0 and 164 point season. The red snake is 2.488 points above the black line and 4 points above the purple snake. The win ensures the red snake will be above the black line for at least the first 5 games.

I love how the extra crispy snake illustrates the value of a win, loss and overtime loss. A loss moves you farther from the black line than a win moves you closer. An overtime loss is less steep than a regular loss, but the single point isn't enough to keep you from drifting away from the black line.

Yesterday's win improved the Flames' record to 4-0-0. They continued their pace for an 82-0-0 and 164 point season. The red snake increased the distance to 3.317 points above the black line and it remains 4 points above the purple snake. I needed to change the y axis as the red snake already broke through the ceiling.

The unexpected has happened. Saturday night's loss has created a blemish on the perfect season. The OTL dropped the red snake's record to 4-0-1. It is now on pace for 147 points on the season. Yes, that would still be an NHL record.

The red snake is 3.146 points above the red line and 3 points above the purple snake. It has been above the black line for all 5 games this year and is guaranteed to stay there at least through game 7. A record of 43-33-1 (92.6 point pace) through the rest of the season would have the red snake end at 96 points.

Tuesday night's win increased the point total from 9 to 11 with a record of 5-0-1. The red snake is 3.976 points above the black line and 5 points above the purple snake. It has been above the black line for all 6 games and is guaranteed to be there through at least game 9.

Although 81-0-1 for 163 points is still on the table, the red snake is on pace for 150 points on the season. A record of 42-33-1 (0.559 point percentage / 91.7 point pace) through the rest of the season would have the red snake end at 96 points.

Was thinking about the surprise this team has been so far this season despite having the 2nd lowest cap hit in the league. Can anyone think of another team with a cap hit as low as them making the playoffs in recent years?

It certainly feels pretty good to be on the right side of this calculation. So many years of slow starts and needing 100+ point paces just to make the playoffs.

Two losses in a row puts the red snake's record at 5-2-1. It is now only 1.634 points above the black line. The purple snake is 2 points below the red snake (9/11). After spending the first 8 games above the black line, the Flames are only guaranteed to be above it until after tonight's game. A win tonight in game 9 would extend the current streak through game 11.

The red snake is on pace for 113 points. A record of 42-31-1 (57.4% / 94 point pace) would have it end at 96 points.
