I remember the days when candy & caramel apples were the hit of the neighbourhood, as soon as it got out who was giving them out the kids flocked to their house, and then what seems like overnight society went crazy, one asshat went to jail for 3 years and it should have been more.

I know you're just trying to be funny but there's really nope hope for us humans on this planet.

It was a lot of coins, but at least in my day, most people would give you pennies, so it wouldn't have been a lot of money. If you hit 100 houses, maybe 60 would give you some coins. If it averaged 5 cents per house, that's only $3 total.

My parents never gave out candy apples, but when I was in preschool, kindergarten, maybe grade one - somewhere around there, I remember my mom making caramel popcorn balls to hand out. I think she also made coloured fruity popcorn balls using Kool-aid powder.

And I know i'm wandering, but come to think of it do they even make Kool-aid powder packets anymore? I can only recall seeing squirt bottles. Or boxes of individual packages of powder that are pre-sweetened.

Just thinking outside the box but I think Covid had something to do with your chart which is making your temperature correlations heteroskedastic (a term which I'm using loosely, I just think the word is funny)

The useful info is don't worry about before six, and shutting down at 8 has been a good choice for me. Lights off, scurry down to the basement.

Do kids appreciate cans of pop or are they too heavy to carry around? Wondering if I should switch up my usual can and chocolate approach.

Is it morally right or morally wrong to decide what candy you give to a child based on their weight?

I think it depends on your process. Like don’t say something like, “Here’s your raisins, tubby.”

I know my kids, although they appreciate the can of soda, bitch about having to drag them around for hours.

Would love to see the response if you gave one kid a full size Reese Big Cup, and a celery stick to the other

Might be some TP and eggs heading your way at some point that night.

I think I mentioned this in previous discussions but I recall one year when I was a kid a house was giving out those new 1L Pepsi bottles and we thought it was awesome until a couple of blocks over when the weight started to really be a pain in the ass.

Nothing wrong with that, so long as you're giving the chubby kids more candy. Clearly, they can handle it.

True. Maybe I’ll stand on my neighbour’s porch and do it while he’s out with his kids. Gotta stay safe out there.

Good word to use. After this year, I will try a regression analysis between weather and kids omitting 2020 and 2021.

Honestly, I think the biggest factor is the decoration of neighboring houses. I live at the end of a court. If the first few houses have their lights off, kids aren't going to bother heading up the court.

As far as recording age goes, I don't think I can do that with any accuracy. The best I could do is have a witch or something that is 4' tall and then just mark if the kids are above or below it.

Has anyone tried giving out potatoes?

The Potato Challenge.

The kid gets to choose between candy or a potato.

Apparently, there's kids who'll go for the spud.

I've never denied a kid, but I came close one year. This older fat kid was stuffing his face at the door, then after I saw him litter his wrappers in my driveway as he walked to the next house. I sure felt like running after him, grabbing his candy, and telling him he can't get it back until he cleans up his garbage and does three laps around the block.
