What was the losing streak the year the Flames won the cup? Let's not tie that but bust out tonight. Hit these kids to slow em down and play a mean road game (if the refs allow it)

it basically means time to "#### or get off the pot"
Sounds like perhaps he's saying we may need to trade for a D man if the kids aren't going to do something.
On the bright side, from Scouting the Refs for tonight's game, we apparently have never had Beau Halkidis ref one of our games, and are 6-3 with Kendrick Nicholson as a ref.
NJD has not had Halkidis either (he only has 58 career games) and is 7-4 with Nicholson.
For recency, we were 4-2 last year with Nicholson, while NJD was 2-3.
Really don’t have a good feeling about this one. Devils play a fast high risk game which we don’t seem to be able to handle well. Hoping for a 3-2 win.

The new NHL, where the refs are factored into the odds.

I wonder if playing more games when you're slumping is better because you can work your way out of bad habits, or if you're just piling on when things are already going poorly.
Gut check time tonight. Let's see what they're made of.
Great point. I think for this team, a high frequency of games is only going to help them in this point of the season as the players are still nailing down their style of play.
If they come out looking 'tired' I would be shocked since they are not traveling far from the last arena they played in. Moreover, the strength of their conditioning has been a part of their identity since last year.
I'd put money on them putting in a good effort tonight. Hopefully that's enough for a W against New Jersey.

You may be thinking of the 85-86 season, when we had an 11-game losing streak that was finally ended against Vancouver by call-up Mike Vernon, who had beaten the Russians the night before in an exhibition match.
We (as everyone already knows) lost in the finals that year to another call-up, named Patrick Roy.
Edit: Sometimes I like to double check my memory, and I'm glad I did this time. My whole life, I've been remembering it as Vernon beat the Russians on a Sunday night and then the Canucks on the Monday night to end the streak... but it turns out I'm wrong. Apparently, we went back to Lemelin and got blown out 9-1 against Hartford in between the Russians and Canucks. Guess I've just repressed that game...
Quote:
In the midst of what was ultimately a franchise record losing streak, wishing to rest Lemelin and facing a minor injury to backup Marc D'Amour, the Flames brought Vernon up to play an exhibition game against Soviet club Dynamo Moscow during the 1986 Super Series.[12] Vernon was outstanding in goal, leading the Flames to a 4–3 victory.[13] Following a 9–1 loss to the Hartford Whalers that was Calgary's 11th consecutive defeat, Vernon was given his first regular season start on January 9, 1986, against the Vancouver Canucks.[14] He led the team to a 5–4 overtime victory to end the streak.[15] It was also Vernon's first NHL win. He recorded his first career shutout, also against Vancouver, on February 26 in a 4–0 win during a stretch where Vernon went two months without losing in which he started.[16]
Reffing, blah blah. The goaltending needs to be a lot better. Need to come up with that big save at crucial times in the game. TOO many turnovers and lack of coverage but the goaltending needs to be better.
