I just assumed permission to talk with Hyman's camp before the UFA period would result in some kind of compensation for the Leafs if a contract was struck. Similar to trading for his rights like we did with Jbo/Wideman. But yeah I guess that makes no sense if every team has been given permission.

This thread says it all. Just say no to signing Hyman.

Treliving broke us with that Brower signing.

I won't pretend to know what all of the analytics he's looking at mean, but in summary he says that Hyman has borderline top line play driving ability, an awesome forecheck, and decent puck skills in zone and transition. He's confident that Hyman will be very valuable for at least 4 more seasons given his ability to do the dirty work in a top 6 role and bury his chances at 5 on 5.
He is a good player. But any GM would be insane to give him term.

Maybe he could join the Flames broadcast team after we buy him out, so the Flames can pay him twice like Troy Brouwer

I am expecting the worst, but maybe BT is just driving up the price.

Hyman is a good player, but his style of play would make that contract unbearable in the latter half.

Only Toronto can sign him to a 8 year deal. It would have to be a sign and trade scenario.

A team trading for his rights can still only sign him for 7 years as he wasn't on that team's reserve list at the deadline the year prior.

If you are going to pay that much money and term for Hyman, then just go after Landeskog. I don't want either but I'd prefer the extra 1.5-2m spent on Landy if they just can't stay away from signing a free agent

Hyman: right-shot LW
Landeskog: left-shot LW

Aren't we looking for right-wing forwards? Did either of them play RW on their current teams?

Sutter player, but stay away. Players of his style are always the ones who end up being the worst signings on July 1

Landeskog > Hyman

And you can just play Tkachuk and Mangiapane on their off side.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Landeskog - Monahan - Mangiapane
Lucic - Backlund - Dube

Looks good to me. Like someone said, I’d rather pay the extra 1.5-2m for Landeskog if we’re going that route.

What a coincidence. 3 horribly managed teams are the front runners ready to overpay for Hyman.

The good news is that Tre is always in on everyone and we usually don't end up getting them. Let's hope this is the case here.

At least this rumor about Treliving being stupid kind of counteracts the other rumor about Treliving stupid (the Gio one).

The Flames only have so much cap space.
