We all know the Oilers are going to win this somehow.

If that's what you mean, then I'm the opposite. As a Flames fan, I take any luck we can get. Because you know if we don't win this one, we aren't winning the one next year or the year after that either. Flames are fated to never win a draft lottery until proven otherwise. Maybe winning this year kicks of a string of good luck for the next few years.
Its called Oiler's Law: win one lottery and you'll win the next 2 as well

Let's pretend the Flames win the lottery and get a 1st or 2nd pick - does that make them more willing to go full rebuild?

You get to put a top 2 pick in your back pocket. So then you go out and trade your top players for picks and prospects, and tank your way to another top 3 pick.

Bam, pretty quick restock.

I think if we win the lottery the best move is to try trading down a few spots. The draft is already a crapshoot and I just don't see any one player as consensus franchise changing pick.

Perhaps trading with Seattle so they take whoever we tell them in the expansion draft.

To Seattle 1st overall
To Calgary 4th overall + Seattle takes player Flames decide in expansion draft

Not a chance, unless they agree to take Lucic. Even then, not sure I would do that.

I don't think it would have any impact beyond having better prospect depth.

Winning the lotto in this draft would be amazing. Getting your pick of the litter and not worrying about what's left to take would be a good feeling. IMO any one of the top 7 or 8 could go #1 depending on organizational preference. Each person in the top ten each have exceptional qualities. Definitely a draft to address a specific need.

What are the scenarios where the Flames can advance some spots?

If we win either of the 2 lottery draws. We can also potentially move back 1 or 2 spots if teams with worse odds win the lottery, pushing everyone else back.

We can pick 1st (2.2%), 2nd (2.4%), 12th (87%), 13th (8.4%), or 14th (0.1%).

Never been less interested in a draft lottery or draft for that matter. It doesn’t feel like there is a game changer at the top of this draft or even a firm top tier. I hope the hockey gods delay the flames lotto luck down the road or can just give the team more puck luck next season

This is one of the least entertaining broadcasts that the NHL puts on every year

It’d be great if the Flames got a higher pick but it’s unlikely, and I sure can’t imagine watching it live

You mean you don't want to to hear 16 stories about good luck charms? There is no pleasing some people.

I suppose the good news is we will know in the first 10 minutes whether the flames moved up, down or stayed put.

If the NHL Network or NBC leaks the draw results early like what happened a few years ago, yeah you'll know well before 10 minutes into the show. Otherwise they will pad the first 25 minutes and then you'll know with about 5 minutes left.

I was just assuming that they'll get the first 5-8 picks done quickly thinking they will stay put and lack excitement. Then the American idle style good luck stories and Ron MacLean NHL family tree recaps will start.

If the Flames win this lottery I'm still not sure we even make the pick.

It probably becomes a top trade chip in discussions to trade for Eichel.

This is why I joked about all the good luck charm stories. Seems they always fill the first 3/4 of the show with crud.
