Getting Brodie done tonight will also free up a lot of time for Treliving tomorrow as he'll no longer have to seek out a top 4 dman. He'll be able to focus on securing a goaltender and forwards.

Could one of the sticking points be expansion protection?

Can Calgary offer that?

Would other teams be willing to offer TJ Brodie expansion protection from Seattle?

I have wondered the same, although I can't imagine there are many teams willing to offer Brodie a protected slot. If he is determined not to go to Seattle, sign a 1-yr deal.

I'm more in favor of Brodie, but you're right. I could see Barrie doing well on a pairing with Gio if that's the route Tre chooses to go. Gio was able to cover for Hamilton's defense, he could do so for Barrie as well.

Was it GG that insisted on a left/right D pairing and forced TJ to struggle all that year trying to make it work? Then Peters finally put him back on his off, and best, side and he found his way again.

I have always liked TJ and hope he decides to stay.

Yeah I agree. Best to stick with Brodie. The likelihood of doing better in landing a player that is equal in terms of contributions to the team on a better contract are slim.

If TJ is willing to sign, get it done and focus on the two areas that clearly need upgrades and stability.

3-4 years tops and not much of a raise.

Would love the hometown discount here.

My "oh man I love this deal" is 5 years, $4.55M AAV.

That would be a win.

Excatly right. As I said in the Barrie thread, that's the only time in his career he's looked bad.

Didn't EvolvingWild have Brodie at $4.95M?

Wonder how they'll do prediction wise with pandemic pricing.

Gut feel, Brodie signs a 5 x just under 5 to stay.

If we can get him for that, the wizard strikes again. I'd put his market value at 5.5 x 5, so anything around that or below, I'm happy with.

I hope he stays if the price is right...I feel he could get a pretty big contract on the market though

If price and term is similar I'm going Barrie. Slightly younger, right shot dman and can quarterback a PP.

We saw last year that Gio has lost a step and is more suited for the 2nd unit. With Gus gone, we have a hole to fill on the PP and thats not Brodie.

Time to move on from some of the core because it clearly isn't working. Despite Brodies improved play down the stretch, if you can bring in Barrie for a similar contract, I think you do it.
