In his first season.I would have given him another year.

I wouldn't trade him for a declining Kessel. Kessel has been playing behind Crosby and Malkin for the last while. Of course he has racked up points. It will be interesting to see how he does now that he will be one of the main targets now.

Deal is not 1 for 1.

Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
Have confirmed that Alex Galchenyuk is going to Pittsburgh for Phil Kessel. There are more pieces to this deal, both players and picks. More details coming soon.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
No salary retained. Some other pieces involved but the major elements are Kessel and Galchenyuk.

They knew this when they traded for him though. Seems dumb to trade for him for one year then realize his UFA years are coming up so trade him again for an aging Kessel.

Joseph is a 1st round pick from 2017

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
PO Joseph and Galchenyuk to Pittsburgh for Kessel and a 4th round pick.

Fun trade! Interested to see if Kessel can finally bust the Coyotes' teamwide scoring slump.

Well considering July 1st of this year would have been the earliest when Galchenyuk would have been able to sign an extension, they probably had a conversation about it recently.

Coyotes didn't like what they heard most likely.

So Pittsburgh gets cap space, a B prospect, and a second line forward?

Not a fan of this for Arizona.

Seems like a good deal for the Pens. They did not have a 1st from 15-18 and traded their 14 1st (Kapanen) in the original Kessel deal. Getting Joseph seems like a good add and Galchenyuk is 6 years younger than Phil.

Oh hell yeah.

Gally was ok and never really made a big impact

PO is expendable IMO.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Gally has played for two offensively inept teams in the Habs\Yotes. I could see him taking off in a big way next year.

Kessel will definitely enjoy playing for the Coyotes. He always hated dealing with the media. Now he has none to deal with!

ECHLer included. Presumably to offset contracts towards the 50 limit.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Penguins have also included Dman Dane Birks in the Kessel trade.

Strange. I thought he wanted to be traded to a team that was a contender. Best of luck Phil.

They're getting there. Kessels scoring could put them.in a wildcard spot.

IMO contenders are playoff teams. Every year there's 16 contenders.

It's funny...

I was just thinking earlier today with the cap dumps and causalities by VGK and SJ, combined with the aggressive movement already by Colorado, and anticipated movement by Nashville—who is a good bet to land Duchene, and Dallas—who looks like they will add Pavelski, that the Pacific doesn't look to be much stronger this year than last year (at least not at the top).
