I have greater confidence in Empty net than I do Smith.

Smith is hot garbage. At this point, I’d rather they waive him and call up Parsons, and run with Rittich as number 1. Smith should just leave town now. Announce his retirement and just go back to Arizona. He has cost this team probably 5 games already this year, and we haven’t even played 20 games yet.
Worst goalie in the league by a considerable margin. He should never play again.

Looks to me like Smith was relying on previous years equipment. Smaller equipment, and Smith can no longer compete.

Flails at most shots, caught out of position, let’s in a couple softies every singe game. I cringe every single shot that goes toward the net like I did when Elliott was here. He sucks, he is terrible. Why won’t they just play Rittich?
Tonight he sat back on the goal line for most of the shots that came at him, he doesn’t see engaged at all.

I don’t understand why they keep playing him? GTFO Smith, pack your bags and GTFO.

Team completly folded after Smith lets in a curling shot from near the blue line.
That was almost as killer as the Phantom Moose goal in game 4.

On the bright side, hearing pinder lay into wills' incredibly idiotic homerish appeal to authority bs regarding Smith and Peter's misguided usage of him is a highlight of my drive home

Scorpion is right. At this point we don’t gave a goalie worse than Smith. We have played enough games to realize this. If you don’t then I’m afraid you are blind.

Posted this in the PGT thread but.
I think Smith seriously tore something in his Groin or W/E and never recovered from it.

He pushed way to hard to make it back last year and just totally shredded his ability to close up the pads and lateral movement. He's slow as molasses covering up the 5 hole, mentally fragile right now.

As a said in the game thread, there's no way Peters has the sole call on who the #1 goalie is. Smith is the GM's guy. Treliving has a history with him. Traded for him. Signed him for two years. Is hanging his hat on Smith as the #1. And he'll be the one who makes the call to move to a tandem system, or, if it comes to that, make Rittich the #1.
As to why Treliving has stuck with Smith as the #1 so far, the NHL has a deeply ingrained old boys culture. The capital that veterans build up with GMs and coaches lasts a long, long time. Too long, IMHO.
