Well that would be why the writer labelled this "preview" instead of "review."

The Flames have finished 3rd or better in their division once in the last six years, and despite all the moves of the off-season, the biggest concern is goaltending.
I want them to not be boring trash, but outside of a 14-15, this team has been dull as a butterknife, and about as deadly.

I think that is the point, but even within context the writeup for the Flames is just not funny.

I stopped watching the last month of the season last year. Last time I did that, I was a child who didn't care about the Flames.
I'm excited for the year and to see how they progress, but "boring trash" isn't exactly an unfair criticism of this team for most of the last decade.

If the article actually supplied some rationale for why the Flames are "boring trash" as you do, then I might agree. The problem is that the writer does not—preferring merely to whine about the arena situation in Calgary.

How is she whining? She's commending Calgary and Nenshi for taking the stance on the arena they have.

You're not really eating popcorn and watching the anger mount.
You appear to be defending the article quite a lot. Seems like a hint of trolling.

Absolutely. So aren't they supposed to supply some humour then?

You are right. She is not whining, but then again, she is also not discussing the actual hockey team—AT ALL.

I didn't bother to read the whole thing, but if you watched last season, it's hard to disagree with the statement...last year was one of the most boring Flames' seasons in recent memory. Mainly the end of the season, and there were bright spots, but overall a forgettable, "boring trash" season. Fortunately, it's a new season, and besides the question marks in net, I like our new look. I'm still not as high on the new coach as perhaps many on here seem to be, but I'm willing to give him a chance. I hope he rolls four lines. But let's see how it plays out. Go Flames!

As a Flames fan, I personally think we'll be competing for the division, but its completely reasonable for an outsider to be skeptical.
I don't really have any issues with the author's points.

The author needed to only mention one first and last name that starts with a "G" and that would explain the title perfectly.

Hard to disagree. How many other ways could the team have failed last year?
Arena
Public Relations
Entertaining hockey
Making the playoffs
All failures in my mind.
Heck, even the anthems were embarrassing. Synth and Country??
But it is a new season with plenty of roster changes. I remain optimistic.

Why do people keep saying this? It's not hard—let me show you:
The Flames made seismic changes to their whole roster, upgraded every forward line, have overhauled the coaching staff and graduated two rookies after on the basis of their exceptional preseason campaigns. If nothing else, this is a dramatically different team from last season. The results should likewise be dramatically different.

Obviously the writing has an intentional tone to it, pretty funny the people harpooning it for not being serious journalism
-The Flames were incredibly boring to watch, last year and for several years
-Were one of the most mediocre teams in the league over recent history
"Teams You’ll Probably Only Have To Bother With For, Like, Five Playoff Games:"
Seems pretty spot on, given our ridiculous first round record.
