Players I’d want in the draft if it were Bennett straight up
Dahlin
Svechnikov
Zadina
Tkachuk
All those are unlikely though
Maybe Wahlstrom/Kotkaniemi/Boqvist/Bouchard/Hughes/Dobson

Moving Bennett for a pick would mean they need to add 2 forwards... I just don’t see this happening unless another larger deal accompanied it.

Seems to me a lot of other teams are leaky with info. I’d be doubtful Brad is shopping much. But he seems like the kind of GM to take a call on any player. Doesn’t mean I always agree with the decisions but I like his willingness to turn over every stone. And I’d imagine that’s why we hear all these “rumors” on so many players lately.

If you can’t get a top 10 pick, there’s probably no sense in moving him.

You guys sure do speak highly of Bennett.....
You think you can fetch a top 6 pick with him? Damn I sure do want some of that weed you have been indulging in.. that legal weed I might add!

I’ve never been a huge fan of Bennett’s, but if we want to win now, he’s better than anyone drafted past 10, and he still has potential to be better than the guys past 10. He’s also for sure an NHLer, the others aren’t

Bennett is established and his value has never been lower than after two years of GG. It’s incredible how low CP thinks of him.
Would you rather have Bennett or a kid who likely doesn’t make the team next year and can’t contribute significantly for at least 2 years? How does that improve a team that is in win now mode

If I were to put money on it, I'd have to bet on Bennett not becoming too much. So the long-term reflection on a trade like this could leave us the winners.
However, what Sam Bennett could be is very interesting. I would hate for the flashes of Sam Bennett to burst out in someone else's jersey. He's an aggressive scorer that should be playing with an edge that tilts games. That kind of player is exactly what this team needs.
Just gotta wonder how much longer we're gonna stand at the craps table...

“Win now” ? I think people are still thinking it’s going to be a tough climb to make the playoffs.

Bennett is worth a late first round pick at this point. Don't see why the Flames would give up those development years unless they going rebuild again. Trading a proven commodity for a player that is three to four years away from contributing seems counter to where Treliving has the team going.

Dreger: Flames using Sam Bennett as bait to get back into the 1st round
I’m pretty nervous going into this draft...These rumours of Hamilton and Bennett being on the move seem like brain dead stupid ideas unless the returns are truly impressive.
Bennett was off to a great start, and then Gulutzan happened. Peters arriving and improving team depth will get more out of Bennett.
Hamilton is a beast, but now what? We don’t like the cut of his jib?
When this is a team that likes the cut of Brouwer’s job, but not Hamilton’s...it just makes me worry.
C’mon Tree, don’t lose me as a fan tonight...

Gonna be really funny when Bennett is a 60-70 point guy by age 25 and everyone here claims they were supporters all along

Thread title should be: Dreger: Using Bennet as click bait.
I think it's far more likely the flames move Hamilton then Bennett.

Or when the current supporters will realize how wrong they were and admit it when Bennett is a 20-30 point winger at best.

Bennett could return a top 10 pick if we travel back in time to 2015.

I think that if this is all Treliving does, it's a failure. If he gets a player that can contribute now then he's fleeced whatever GM gave up that high of a pick.
I think this has to be viewed as the first domino. If Treliving is adding 1 or 2 players to the top 9 this summer, Bennett is going to have to bring his A-game to stay there. Treliving could just be pulling the trigger now, rather than risk trying to sell pressbox Bennett.
If he isn't adding to the top-9, and this was just a flip to get into the first round... this hurts. I agree that Bennett as he is now is something I'd rather have than someone who might be a few years out.

IMO - Bennett can get you a high 1st rounder if you also agree to take a contract dump. i like Bennett but the Flames planned trajectory into contender status requires him to be a solid top 6 forward by now - they can't wait much longer for him to blossom - so it may be time to cash him in for a top 6 guy who is too expensive elsewhere and recoup the 1st round pick.
