Hathaway has had a good season in the A. He was the logical call-up (and that's from someone who's a Mangiapane fan).

If it was the same injury at 2012, then its probably knee related. Possibly ACL? Too bad though, as much as he is maligned here, he does bring some skill, experience and character on the team. From his trash talking to the way he has fun out there with the guys. You can see it during the breaks, how he interacts with the team.
Experience and leadership is needed for this club, Versteeg brought alot of that. Plus he never gives up on a play, always plays an in your face style of hockey with that competitive edge. For a smaller guy, he never has shied away from making a hit either.

sad news. He had a great season last year and took a pay-cut to stay in Calgary, so it's hard not to feel sorry for him. Hope for a quick recovery.

Tough to hear about Steeger, never want to see a guy go down like this. Sucks no doubt about it.

Meh, I dunno... I mean if someone in the past offseason said that we could have Iginla as a guy to play 4th line 5v5 minutes + be a PP specialist for a $$ rate commiserate with that expectation (which is pretty close to what Versteeg is for us now) I wouldn't have said "no".
I'd say "no" now because 40 year old Iggy coming in cold (no training camp/no experience with GG) would be counter-productive and I'm not sure he'd be willing (or if the team would be willing) to have him do a conditioning stint in the AHL or if he'd evan want to play for what would basically be a prorated $1M.

I'd love to have Iggy sign back. Bring him in on a PTO to practice with the team for a while, then when he gets up to speed make the signing official. Let Jarome empty the tank playing 4th line 5v5 minutes and get him on his off-wing on the PP unit. I bet you'd see one hell of a motivated Iggy, and it would be beautiful.

40 years old, hasn't played in a long time and would be a major distraction ... no thanks. I'd much rather see Mangiapane get a chance, he's certainly earned it.

Man, I thought we were done with the "Bring Iggy Back" garbage....He hasn't played or trained as an NHL player for over 7 months. I would much rather see a rotation of AHL players that have earned the right to play or get a taste of the NHL. Mangiapane, Hathaway and Klimchuk deserve it more.
We already have a slow 40+ winger on the team, that position has been filled buy a much more regal mullet.

Yeah, that's what our bottom six forward group needs....to get older and slower.
WTF people?

Shouldn't we make prospects take a job from a vet instead of gifting the job to the prospect?

So instead of gifting the job to a prospect to see what he has we should gift the job to a (sorry) washed up vet and dream about what was?

How would promoting a hard working, performing young player(s) from the "A" be gifting him the job? Mangiapane and Klimchuk have earned at least a look in the NHL IMO, Iggy has earned nothing. If Iggy was signed we would be gifting him a position and an NHL contract lol

And like I posted above..it is far from gifting when they have been working their ass off in the "A" and performing.

Mangiapanes numbers in Stockton. How would giving him a chance at this point be "gifting him the job"? It's a textbook case of a prospect earning a look.

Since1984, I agree. I was replying to CroFlames comment about making a prospect beat out a vet. At this point all of the Flames prospects have beat out Iggy, they have contracts and he doesn't. Yeastmode has been great and he's out worked most everyone and deserves a spot when it's available.

Don't think there's any chance of the Flames rolling the dice on a 40 year old Iggy who hasn't played in months. That ship sailed the day Jagr was signed.
Bring up Eat Bread and see how he handles it, guy has been Stockton's best player hands down and has earned a look.
