It's the Gulutzan-Canucks bias. Coach is a fan.
Higgins probably knew this when he signed the PTO too. Best chance for him to land another contract in the league at his stage in his career.

Morrison, Grossman and Higgins probably should've been cut.

Morrisson has had a better camp than Wotherspoon.

I would be fine keeping him but it's kind of a redundant role with guys like Bouma and Stajan on the roster.

I believe they are counting Smid and Pribyl
also including a roster with all the cuts removed so it is easier to see who is left and which of them need waivers

I am not fussed about keeping PTOs around - there's no reason to cut them. But I doubt any make the team. So I'm really just watching Kulak, Morrison, Wotherspoon and Tkatchuk, Vey, Chaisson, Shinkaruk, Hamilton and Hathaway as far as bubble players.

I am getting concerned about Porier.
He has NHL speed. Surely, he can carve out a career as a PK specialist.

i am really happy they have cut down the roster to the point where we can start to see the lineups in the final pre-season games.
It's likely as many CPers would have wagered, which is also interesting but sad that there weren't any surprise standouts.
My attempt at depth chart (left to right):
Center: Monahan, Bennet, Backlund, Stajan, Hamilton, Vey
LW: (Gaudreau), Tkatchuk, Ferland Bouma, Shinkaruk, Higgins, Bollig, Korpikoski
RW: Brouwer, Frolik, Chiasson, Hathaway
D: Giordano, Brodie, Hamilton, Jokipakka, Engelland, Wideman, Kulak, Wotherspoon, Grossman, Morrisson
G: Elliot, Johnson, Rittich

First round picks Poirier, Klimchuk and Jankowski not pushing for spots out of camp.
Jankowski somewhat understandable, as its his first pro camp. While I would not call Poirier or Klimchuk busts, I think its fair to say they have lost their "blue chip" status.

It's not over for Klimchuck and Poirier but I think we have to temper expectations. A bit of a cautionary tale as receiving 1st round picks in big trades is great and all but if you don't make good use of them it's a waste. The Igina and Bouwmeester trades don't look very good today seeing the Flames may have whiffed on those picks.

So this leaves how many more cuts?
1 more goalie
3 more defencemen
4 more forwards

Really unless they blew away the coaches they are better served playing a regular shift in the AHL as there should be more roster openings next offseason.

I wouldn´t hold my breath for either Klimchuk or Poirier to turn into anything special. Three years already. If he´s still up, hopefully Shinkaruk is having a good camp. We need his secondary scoring

I don't know that Poirier and Klimchuk have underperformed at this camp so much as they've been passed by the likes of Shinkaruk and Tkatchuk (and of course, Bennett). And to a lesser extent, Ferland. They need to either find a new gear or learn a new role.
Too bad, because a guy like Poirier who could be an adequate scorer on RW could find himself on the top line as the "complementary" player to that pairing.

Still too early to write off either of those kids. They are very young. Just because they were first rounders does not mean they are auto-busts if they don't step in early. See Backlund as an example of a player that took a few years to develop and still turned out just fine. Klimchuk in particular has missed a lot of development time due to injury.
Too early to write them off. Very important years for them though, I'll give you that.
