Have to admit Andersson's conditioning dropped him below Hickey for me. Gigantic red flag in my opinion.

Truth be told...I only vote in these to look back and see how great I am, or how far off base I am, at evaluating the Flame's prospects.

Andersson, like his upside much more. Hickey has an incredible shot but there is much to his offensive game besides that.

I query why everyone is for Andersson due to his offence, yet the defensiveness of Hickey is top notch. Both are useful in the NHL, so why the big love for strictly offensive defensemen when what Calgary needs is a good solid stay at home defender? Just looking for some explanation, that's all.

Rasmus does both well. Isn't strictly offensive at all.

Do the posters all consider Hathaway graduated?

He only has 14 NHL games but sure looks he belongs and will likely have the most NHL games this season of all the players on this list.

His 19 goals in his rookie pro season was 2nd on the Flames AHL team.

That's fair. I just feel that Hickey brings better defense overall. Just my opinion.

Shinkaruk as he is so close to becoming an NHL regular and sticking with the big club.

Went with the D who's never out of position, plays smart physical hockey and looks a bit Doughtyish.

Hickey for me

Hathaway might be more ready, but I think in the end his ceiling is being the next Lance Bouma. There are still plenty of prospects on this list who may have the ability to be more than that.

The people running Swedish hockey have Ollas Mattsson ranked higher than both Kylington and Andersson.

With Gio Brodie and Hamilton signed for 6, 5 and 4 years it will be very hard for a another primary offense d-man to break into the Flames line-up....

I think Hickey is 'can't miss top 4' while I think Andersson is "probably will be top 4" so I voted Hickey.

I'm not too worried about his offense. He won't get a lot this year either as he probably doesn't see much pp time with McAvoy and Fabbro on the team. But with Gio, Brodie, Hamilton, Andersson and Kylington I have few concerns about our immediate, short-term and mid-range offense from the back end.

I am wondering who will be our shutdown guys, especially mid-term. Hickey looks like he could excel in that role. Maybe Ollas Mattsson as well. I hope low expectations for Kanzig, Bruce and Falkovsky at the NHL level

Yeah, Hathaway is 25 in the fall. When/if he makes it it'll be as he peaks for 2-3 years. It's good to have those guys, keeps the bottom line cheap if you can cycle them out instead of trading for and overpaying a guy like Bollig.

Shinkaruk is a good (and at this time the best) bet to both...

A: Make the NHL (perhaps as soon as this season) and,
B: See the ice as something higher then a fringe 4th liner

... gotta be him.

I like Hathaway, but his upside is 4th line NHLer. I'm not going to vote for a highly probable 4th liner over a possible Top-6 forward or Top-4 defenseman.

Hunter for 4th time for me; game-changing offensive ability/potential

Poirier with my vote.

I think last year was an adjustment year in competing and learning to be an overall player. I hope the lesson was learned and this is the year he blossoms.

Hickey again. Best defense prospect with a pro game skill set. Really like Andersson as well, but his conditioning raises a red flag. Don't want to see another Ryan Howse situation develop, so this needs to be addressed. Makes him fall down the list.

I think Andersson's ceiling is higher. He surely knows that conditioning is his weak point, and yet he still showed up for a camp in less than great condition. This knocks him down a few rankings in my book. Will he commit to a pro lifestyle?

Hickey's skating, size and positioning make him more of a sure thing imo.

Doesn't take much of a hockey scout to see that the upside of Ollas Mattsson doesn't match either of Andersson or Kylington.

Could have more to do with the way he plays (need more physical players to compliment other finesse defensemen) or the politics of OM staying home while Andersson and Kylington have taken different routes (Kylington a young pro then AHL, Andersson OHL).

Or ... maybe it's the documented attitude of Kylington and conditioning of Andersson.

Hard to say.

But OM is a stay at home 5/7 projection blueliner
