No charges have been filed, nor has any arrest been made. Just look at all the brouhaha that turned out to be nada before.

Since people are so fond of blind speculation. I'll speculate that some people like to try to extort famous people.

News Update

Sabres forward Evander Kane put his hands on four people - three women and a man - at a Chippewa Street bar during the early morning of June 24 but he will face non-criminal harassment charges for his actions against just two women, two police sources familiar with the case told The Buffalo News.

The charges will be lodged in connection with grabbing two women – one of them by the neck - and are based on witness statements and surveillance camera video, the police sources said.

Kane also yanked the hair and grabbed the throat of a third woman, but she has not come forward to press charges, the sources said. In addition, Kane grabbed a bouncer after the bouncer warned the hockey star to stop his aggressive behavior, the police sources said.

Attorney Paul J. Cambria, who represents Kane, vehemently denied the allegations and said he, too, has looked at the videos and spoken to people associated with the ownership of the nightclub and to his client.

Yea the guy's got a bad reputation based on his past and it's really hard to believe that he's innocent of any wrongdoing at this point.

Non criminal charges? What does that even mean?

Civil assault (aka battery) or civil harassment, probably. Action by an individual, not the state. No potential criminal liability.

Perhaps his actions were of a sexual nature rather than a abusive nature (lack of a better word)

The way I read it is, he was making a domineering gesture towards the women by putting his hand around their neck and pulling hair. The bouncer seen it as too aggressive and stepped in and told him to cut it out.

I could be completely wrong and perhaps he was looking to hurt these women.. But im guessing he made some pretty bold advances at them, they did not appreciate it. They complained, and now, non-criminal charges?

What we would refer to as a provincial offence in Alberta. Like a speeding ticket or drunk in public ticket instead of criminal dangerous driving or causing disturbance charges for example.

The article explains there is no fingerprints or mugshot taken as the charges are the lowest form available and not considered criminal.

I agree, grabbing anyone by the neck, especially in public, is threatening.

I still can't believe how much a 20 goal winger fetched in a trade for the Jets. He's easily one of the most overrated players in the NHL.

Didn't he have a 30 goal season at 21?

Chevy killed that trade though. Stafford, Myers, Lemieux, 1st, Armia for Bogo and Kane?!? Robbery by the Jets.

I still think Kane gets dealt to Vancouver this summe for something like Hansen/Burrows and because it is Benning add a 2nd from Vancouver

^ that's all they could get to stick? Sounds kind of weak.. just hitting him with anything they can, which appears to be very little.

What kind of penalty does misdemeanor criminal trespass carry?

What a clown this guy is.

Yeah, two sides to every story, yada yada yada. How come stories like this don't follow Mikael Backlund around? Gio? Basically 99.9% of NHL players?
