i picked maclean, but i think there's a good chance of Anaheim promoting him...

Darryl, would be interesting, so long as he stays as coach and doesn't expand his scope....

outside of those guys, its a tough choice, and i don't know enough about some of the non NHL guys to even hazard a guess really

Sutter if available. Dineen otherwise. Would like to see Hawerchuk brought into our ranks in some fashion.

Maybe he could bring in Jim Montgomery as an Assistant?

Montgomery is currently the head coach for Denver in the NCAA, but he was the coach in Dubuque when Gaudreau was in the USHL. He's another highly regarded head coach in the NCAA.

Not that the Flames should necessarily build their entire coaching staff around one player, but familiarity with and past success in getting the most out of the franchise's cornerstone player certainly wouldn't hurt.

Sutter is getting old. Almost 15 years since the Flames hired him. If Anaheim doesn't offer him their job, he either goes back to LA or retires. He won't be interested in a team like Calgary.

I had to vote that. I mean how bad could he be? Better yet, what could he teach Johnny? Of course the main reason is it would be the greatest troll on the Oilers of all time!

Sutter and Treliving seem like a good fit, but I don't know much about the other options

Tim Hunter with Joel Otto and Rocky Thompson as his assistants. Black & blue hockey.

I like Green but my 2nd option would be Housley. He was a really smart player and it sounds like he's a solid up and coming coach.

I would like either Dineen or Stevens, leaning towards Stevens. Tutelage under two of the best in the league.

I really don't want a first time NHL coach like Hawerchuk, Housley or Green. If they fail horribly, we waste two years and we're likely farther back in the rebuild than we are today. Just look at the Oilers with Eakins. We need someone established and experienced dealing with a younger roster. Personally, my vote is for Mike Yeo, John Stevens or Paul MacLean.

If Trevling wants a black and blue type team Housley won't be his guy , he was probably the softest player to ever wear the Flaming C. And as a side note probably the most arrogant as well. Phillis can stay right where he is at as far as I'm concerned.

Green or Sutter.

Or Gretzky, just to annoy Oiler fans.

What about if those guys become a Haxstol, Cooper, Blashill, or Peters instead of an Eakins?

Going with a different name: Luke Richardson.

Former NHL assistant in Ottawa. Went down to run the Binghamton Senators for the last few years and has done very well. Recently wanted to be considered for the vacant head coaching gig, but was turned down by management. He's leaving the Senators organization in hope of pursuing a head coaching job in the NHL.

Edit: also played 22 NHL seasons and was known for hard nosed defense. Might fit the mould that the Flames are looking to create. Seems like he's been fast-tracked for a head coaching gig for a while now, but hasn't had the opportunity.

I think he's the guy we end up hiring. Just a hunch.

Been saying for months, but hopefully the Blues lose and Hitchock becomes available.

Also hoping for Sutter.

After those two, lets nab Dineen

On my God the Oilers faithful would have the melt down of all melt downs if Gretzky was hired by the flames. Lol so let's do it for shi * & giggles lol

I know...it can definitely work out well. But I'm leery of the boom or bust pick and would instead prefer going with a known commodity that hopefully won't drive our young team into the ground (acknowledging it may still happen with an experienced coach).
