Are you also "counting" how often the sequence goes:

-Offensive zone faceoff with Russell/Engelland-Hamilton
Johnny coughs up puck
-Russell/Engelland non-chalantly glides backwards and then gets hemmed in for next fourty seconds
-Monahan finally gets puck and dumps it at red line, other team retrieves right away
-Flames Change. Gio, Stajan, Brodie, Bollig, Jones rush onto ice with other team already having forward momentum
- Jones stands around doing ****ing nothing if he hasn't already flown the zone
- Stajan gets caught out of position in front of the net
- Gio/Brodie quickly break up cycle anyways
- Gio rims puck around wall to where Bollig is supposed to be, but Bollig was a half-step late
- You are blaming Gio for coughing up the puck when way back before Johnny coughed up the puck, he could have not coughed up the puck and gotten a shot on the net to freeze the puck so the Stajan line can instead try to be the line generating a cycle.

Sports are fluid. You can't count every individual event in a sequence independent of every other event. They all contribute to each other. Brodie and Gio have performed admirably, but get the short end of the stick because this team doesn't have a true NHL second pair.

Counting giveaways is meaningless anyway. Which D lead the league in giveaways? Hmm Doughty, Burns, Subban, Karlsson, etc. Oh look it's exclusively elite players.

Why should any of us count the giveaways ourselves? Should we also count the number of shots Hiller faces to determine his save percentage? This data is readily available.

Hmmm I know Tom Webster personally as I'm good friends with a family member. He knows I'm a Flame fan and has always taken credit for Gio (and Brodie).

I never was sure how much influence he actually had on his acquisition. This article confirms he was the main catalyst in it.

Next time he quips ''how are my boys lookin lately'', (Gio,Brodie) I'll have to legitimately thank him.

Captaincy is the most overrated thing in sports.
Success has more to do with the makeup and development of the overall team than an individual player.

Gio has been perfectly fine as a captain, as was Iginla. There are far more factors to success than either of these guys could ever take care of themselves.

All I expect from a captain is consistency in effort and performance. Putting a winning team together beyond that is up to management and coaches.

HF threads that talk about the flames have had a similar theme thst Gio is having a bad year. I think his start and the same 4-5 Oilers fans have somehow continued to push this narrative. Lots of uninformed lemmings on thst board follow suit. They love saying how horrible that contract is which is laughable at this stage. 16 goals 41pts in 66 games on pace for 20 goals and 51ptsthis year. Putting up those numbers, playing against top opposition, playing all situations is the definition of a number 1 Dman.

I still refuse to join thst site to post because of the endless arguments I would get in. According to Oiler fans our blueline is awful which is why our gold against is bad. Gio is overpaid, Hamilton is a bust and Brodie is the only decent guy on our backend. Oh yeah and Klefbom is a top 2 Dman. Idiots up north.

Gio is awesome and will lead this team into contention with our young core

Such a stupid argument...why does it even matter? Gio was an upcoming UFA, When TJ is at that stage of his career he is gonna get PAID trust me.

It's a bad contract no matter how you spin it. It's tolerable for likely the first 2 seasons of it but the back 3/4 years are going to likely cost the Flames retaining a player or two they would have liked to keep.

As for Gio his year started off horribly for the first two months and he turned his game around in December/January but his game has started slipping again back to where it was in the beginning of the season where he was on the ice for a lot of goals due to poor defensive coverage or turnovers. Part of this IMO is that the Flames play a system that is prone to turnovers as defensemen are always looking up ice to make a quick break out over sometimes just making the safe play and the other part is that he tries to do too much at times. He's a great leader and captain so I don't think you can question that part of his game as it probably played a large role in him getting that deal.

He's similar to Erik Karlsson area where you accept the defensive gaffes because he also creates his share of offense. It's going to be a problem when his offensive game slips as he ages but the contract is what it is and we just have to hope for the best.

I learned from the article that Ron Sutter doesn't know what "taking the high road" means.

Did you post this to show us how underrated Wideman is? Just goes to show you can spin advanced stats to suit your argument as while I'm no Wideman hater/basher, any Flames fan would know he's a train wreck at times defensively.

Wideman is a train wreck.. mostly because he gets beat to the puck in his own zone. There are entire shifts where he did not even touch the puck while hemmed in his zone.

This also shows that players that touch the puck a lot will give it up more.. which makes sense. Giordano touches the puck a lot and does not give it away much at all, which blows that one posters argument out of the water.

Lol, I know Feaster was just using words to get his point across, but if you want to get super technical, it would have to be Gio. If we assumed 24 guys didn't name themselves and all named Gio as the captain, then Gio can't be among those 24 guys.

I lurked and observed on this site for maybe 2 or 3 years before joining because, despite several people telling me how great it was, it seemed like every time I checked it out, many threads would boil down to the same Iggy/anti-Iggy debates, with the same handful of people making the same, vitriolic posts over and over again.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the same thing is going to happen with Giordano. It is already the case that a few people have to state - every time he is mentioned - that his contract will be terrible. And it will only get worse.

And yes, they are some of the same people.

We have no idea how long he will maintain his high level of play. Plus, his leadership skills are top shelf. But now, every time he coughs up the puck, we're going to have to read about his contract being an anchor.

Yay.
