I saw "Pittsburgh goalie" and my heart skipped a bit lol. Thought it was gonna be Marc Andre Fleury! But it's not. Fleury to Calgary would just be too awesome!

Way to shoot high. Other teams top prospects usually come with a very high price tag but this is the kind of goalie to target.

Will only happen now if Pittsburgh wants one of our players as a rental to be part of a few players/picks going back, otherwise it can wait.

The kid is good! I'd be extremely excited to have Murray/Gillies as future tandem. If nothing else to double our odds of hitting pay dirt.

Craig Button's 31st ranked prospect and the 3rd ranked goalie behind Samsonov and Demko. Probably the furthest developed of the top ranked prospect goalies on his list.

Who's a waiver wire guru? Is there any highly touted goalies set to hit the waiver wire next year like Markstrom has in years past?

That's the point, it makes perfect sense for it to happen now. Pittsburgh gives up a ton of draft picks every year because they have Crosby and Malkin and every year is an all-in year for them.

I would guess the Penguins would prefer to trade a 22-year old goalie who isn't really expected to supplant Fleury anytime soon as opposed to yet another 1st round pick. Pittsburgh also has Tristan Jarry putting up excellent AHL numbers as well. They have to move one of them.

The Flames have to take steps to address the goaltending by the deadline.
If they don't bring back a warm body like Murray, they need another 1st round pick if they want to be in on Andersen, Bishop, Vasilevsky etc.

I'd be fine bringing this kid in - he has excellent numbers from a December callup (.938 sv %, 1.72 GAA in 4 starts). And not for nothing, but he makes 550k. And no matter what, wouldn't make more than 2.5M for the next 2-4 years. And cost savings matter. So if they think Matt Murray is a potential solution, I'm on board.

I'd like to pick up either Murray or Hellberg, please.

Matt Murray has the best AHL stats over multiple seasons that I've ever seen. His save percentage at every level is off the charts.

The way this team plays, it might make a star goalie look like he's having an off year. If you trade for a goalie to end the season and don't get into the playoffs or the guy looks as bad as Hiller or Ortio - then what? I'd rather Brad make the necessary changes to build this team bigger first, then look for a number one goalie after. Do this off season or during next several seasons when the price is right and not just based on the need to get in the playoff due to trade deadline pressures.

If they're going to take a guy with 4 games of NHL sample size, and probably offer a substantial payment, I'd want to know how his glove hand, blocker, puck-handling, rebound control, etc are.

I'm sure the team has done their homework. Nobody pays a premium for a non NHL player without getting a good look at all areas of his game. Especially a goalie!

Not to throw cold water on your post, but many on CP have determined that sv% is a sufficient stat, not only for the body of work on a season, but also on a per game basis, by which to make pretty much definitive decisions on the performance of a goalie.

So good luck with that in this crowd :-)

No way Pittsburgh gives up Murray. Fleury is nearing the end of his career and it would make more sense they'd trade Fleury.

Good! I'm glad they're pushing hard for goaltending! If you can't land one on deadline day at least you tried, then on to the draft and UFA day.

Murray looks really good. But there's a bunch of others out there too. Magnus Hellberg, Anton Forsberg, Igor Shestyorkin, Linus Ullmark and on and on we go. There's a goalie out there for the Flames, they'll get one.
