Dion wouldn't be a bad player if he was on the second pairing. But WOW, no salary retained?????? Jesus Christ!

Phaneuf gets paid more than Karlsson. That's insane.

This trade has to make Wideman look pretty attractive as he's only got one more year left on his deal. With the Phaneuf contract a the Senators are really going out on a limb here.

This appears to be a really stupid move for Ottawa.

Help, save, whatever.

Phaneuf gets tons of hate on here, but he played a ton of minutes for the Leafs and was having a pretty good season. They are tanking hard this year.

Leafs are laughing. Most of the contracts they are taking on here are expiring. They just bought themselves a ton of flexibility for their rebuild with the option to re-sign some guys if they like them (ie. Michalek).
I can't for the life of me figure out why Ottawa made this trade.

So the Leafs master plan has been revealed. Going all Oilers. Say what you want about Phaneuf but god man look at that roster.

Getting rid of Phaneuf is the opposite of tanking.
This trade makes getting Stajan look pretty good IMO.

EDIT: Actually the tweet says "No salary will retained by either team over the trade's entirey." I originally read that to mean no salary at all is retained but the wording makes it sound like it also could mean, "Toronto retains one year of Phaneuf's salary at 50% then nothing after." Not sure if something like that is allowed or if the retention has to be over the entirety of the remaining contract. I'm probably trying to read way too much into this. The wording just seems weird.
|
I don't believe you can retain salary for fractions of a contract. All our nothing I'm pretty sure
