I have to admit that I watching this with guilt inducing horrified fascination and anticipation.

Worst case scenario sees 5-8 feet of water throughout most of New Orleans for over a month before the pumps can empty it out. There could result in enough damage that it is unfeasable to rebuild the city, meaning New Orleans would have to be abandoned and rebuilt elsewhere.

A pretty historic event.

They are taking some park's bottlenose dolphins and sea-lions inland to a hotel pool. Just like the ocean!

That is Gulf Port Mississippi.
Really nice town. Right on the gulf coast. There small 2 lane highway that runs east/west right along the beach.
There is a seaworld type area there, where you can go swim with the dolphins. You can take ship from here, and go out to Ship Island for the day. On ship island, there is an old Civil War base that you can tour.

Hopefully the town is still there, but if they are expecting 28 foot high storm surge, I highly doubt much will be left.

Another side effect of this, could be gas prices rising again. As alot of refineries are located in the New Orleans area.

At only 10-20% of its original strength, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Look at this from the National Weather Service:

http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/iwszone?Sites=:laz069

MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS...PERHAPS LONGER. AT
LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL
FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL...LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY
DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.

[...]

HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY...A

[...]

POWER OUTAGES WILL LAST FOR WEEKS...AS MOST POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN

Dear god. I've never seen a warning issued by a government agency use such blunt and alarming language.

Thats the truth MarchHare. I too have not seen a warning worded like that. This is big time. I'm surprised they waited this long to get everyone the hell out of there.

Picturing what it will look like when its over is almost impossible (from the warning)....

THE VAST MAJORITY OF NATIVE TREES WILL BE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. ONLY
THE HEARTIEST WILL REMAIN STANDING...BUT BE TOTALLY DEFOLIATED. FEW
CROPS WILL REMAIN. LIVESTOCK LEFT EXPOSED TO THE WINDS WILL BE
KILLED.

Does anybody have any links to any webcams, streetcams, weathercams, etc. feeds from New Orleans? I'd love to watch it actually take place.

Many of the ones I've been able to google seem to be dead. Or at least a good Satellite feed that updates regularily. Most of the ones I'm finding at 2 hours old.

NOLA.com
But this is a better link (same site)
http://www.nola.com/bourbocam/
Has alot of cams. But you need Realplayer (if you want streaming) otherwise you get stills. There are cams on Bourbon street, looking towards the mississippi, and I think 3 more.

River and Quarter cams are working. Bridge cam is working, but it is focused on the rain droplets found right on the lens of the camera.
Parade cam also works, but not much is going on there. That probably would be a good cam to watch, to see the floods.

Living in Florida I know what they're going through. They were showing on the news here 20 or 30,000 people are expected to fill the SuperDome (home of the N.O. Saints NFL football team) but the stadium's roof hasn't been tested to withstand winds around 165mph

Hopefully everyone will make it through this ok.

Amazing... we (society) spend trillions on offense and defense in the global perspective, yet have zero respect, foresight nor financial preparation for Mother Nature when it strikes like this.

Best of luck New Orleans, please accept my utmost hope for you all to overcome your ensuing hardships. Stay well.
