I believe it would have been 10% greater than the last deal, so around 760k in the NHL and 75k in the AHL.

Hmmm, that's a pretty honest figure for a still developing 24 year old defenseman.

I would have qualified him at that amount, and let Reinhart go.

I've always had the impression that Hanowski was a career AHLer. Not sad to see him go, but I hope he lands on his feet somewhere lucrative.

Last chance for Reinhart to turn his career around. Everyone knew Ramage was a long shot when he was drafted, that upside never materialized. Kind of happy about the Byron QO, challenge the youngsters with a guy who never quits.

I'm a little surprised with the Byron QO. I don't feel like he fits this roster at all anymore.
I prefer to look at it as Iginla did us a favour by signing in Boston to that incentive contract which really starting to screw with the cap for Boston. In the end Hamilton is here. In a round about way Iginla still helped us.

The Flames have a bunch of guys coming up, and will hopefully consistently moving players up through the system. You can't hang onto 24-25 year olds hoping they become something. Reinhart, Agostino, Arnold probably have one more year to prove they can make it or they won't be qualified this time next year either.

Austin Carroll, Morgan Klimchuk, Hunter Smith, Keenan Kanzig, Jon Gillies all joining the team full time this year. Hopefully bigger roles for both Emilie Poirier and Patrick Sieloff.

Only so many spots, only so much ice time, gotta make cuts.

Not sure that speed is going to be much of an issue with our current Roster

Gio/Brodie/Hamilton/Russell
Hudler/Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett

At what point would you put Byron ahead of these players in a 3 on 3 situation?

I choose to look at the latter.
Iggy was a breakup trade, pure and simple. The return wasn't good, but it was more important that we ended the relationship and allowed ourselves to get on with life.

You can't stay in a bad situation until you have a hotter alternative. Sometimes you have to make your decision, get by on Hanowskis, Agostinos and late 1sts for a few months, and then one day you wake up in some polygamist paradise where you've managed to score four chicks that are as beautiful as Monahan, Gaudreau Brodie and Hamilton are talented.

If all things are equal, I'd rather keep Byron and move Raymond.

I agree with this. It was a short term pain for long term gain. Iggy has been gone for 2 full seasons now and we have already made it back to the playoffs. Have a beautiful young core. Feaster's hands were tied, he got what he could. Future is bright.

Is there any chance that Kylington or Anderson plays in the AHL next season because of a loophole of what league they played in?

? Agostino and Klimchuk look like NHLers to me. Who knows, Klimchuk might be the third piece on the Monahan/Gaudreau line long term.

- Never got healthy scratched
- big time PKer
- Treliving mentioned Mangiapane's speed as a big thing as the league moves to 3vs3 OT.
- Treliving wants a strong possession team, Byron's a strong possession player

Byron fits better than some of the guys with better contracts do (Bollig, & Raymond)

Depends if we go 2F + 1D or 1F + 2D usually. If we choose to be aggressive with 2F on each line then he can play on the 3rd line.

Kylington can because he was drafted from Europe.

Andersson was drafted from the CHL so he has to go back to junior.

Not surprised at all. The AHL team is already starting to get heavy with prospects, these guys are taking up a roster spot that could be given to someone like Klimchuk.

The only one I'm mildly surprised at qualifying is Bryce Van Brabant. What little I saw of him with the Flames, he didn't look intimidated at all so there's that. Maybe he can take a page out of Ferland's and Buoma's book and become a physical forward.

On a side note I have to say I think it's very cool that Turner Elson was qualified.

The absolute definition of a heart and soul warrior, molded from the same sort of stock that makes up some guy named Lance Bouma.

Excellent to see his hard work and determination get him an offer.

That might be why Ramage was expendable. Maybe he will get a PTO and act as good competition for Stockton.

When Elson was even getting skating time with the big squad as a black ace, was when I knew Elson would be qualified.
