At 17 they'll bump this kid up to an adult right?

Yes, his age, severity, history, and number of charges should hopefully mean that he's put on trial as an adult.

I don't pretend to completely know the justice system, but why is the kid not charged with attempted murder?
The practical answer is it's not worth the effort under the YCJ, there would be little difference in sentence to an aggravated assault conviction.

If we cut his arms off, he's going to have to learn some serious circus skills to keep hacking people.

A very good self defence tool, I have one - the light is blinding. It probably wouldn't save you from getting jumped by guys with machetes, but gives you a pretty good chance to get away using a non lethal way. Much better than a hammer!

I knew a guy who served in Iraq and they had those types of tactical lights attached to their assault rifles. His actually had a strobe function as well to blind the enemy before an assault. The laser sure helps aiming in the dark too.

I just bring that up because I noticed that website sells those types of lights.
