If the sabres weren't so intent on tanking, they should take him.

A) health issues. Well documented, with the MS and the wall-kick that has caused him to miss the start of this season. But he also has a history of mysteriously coming up lame right as he was getting hot, or when the team needed him, throughout his career. Russo has written about this in the past.

B) Look at his stats, he was only "good" for half of one season (last season). Yes, he was very good during that stretch. But that's the outlier among his career numbers, not the standard. Yes, it's possible he could have Figured It Out and will pick up at that level, but what if it truly was the outlier and he goes back to how he has performed for the balance of his career? Now you have and injury-prone goalie, with MS, who is an average performer capable of playing well, just not consistently.

No, he's not making a ton of money, and yes, his contract is up at the end of the season - so it's not a huge risk economically, but I just don't see the upside reward as materially off-setting that risk.
Completely agree

I wonder if it has anything to do with his little confrontation with his teammate in the preseason

Has it been disclosed who the little tiff was with and why there was the altercation>?

I think, to one degree or another, it absolutely has to do with his little confrontation in the preseason. Either it outright burned the bridge, or at least it opened the door for Kuemper to take his job.

It has not been disclosed with whom, or about what, he threw down.

I don't see how Edmonton doesn't claim him.
Lets put on our Edmonton Management thinking caps for a second here.
All that matters is stats, that prove a player knows a little something about winning.

Current Goalie 1A - Career GAA = 2.77, SV% = 0.913 Career GP = 72
Current Goalie 1B - Career GAA = 2.51, SV% = 0.910 Career GP = 37
Available Goalie - Career GAA = 2.41, SV% = 0.916, Career GP = 148

Goalie 1A's record last year was 16-16-4
Goalie 1B's record last year was 5-4-2
Available Goalies' record last year was 18-7-3

This is a no brainer....

I didn't use names, because names don't win Stanley Cups, winning wins Stanley cups, and stats have proven who knows more about winning.

The only thing better than Harding getting claimed, would be Harding getting claimed and someone wanting to trade for Vanek.

That guy is a monumental waste of oxygen. Don't tell me about his apples, I know they're there. But he was brought in to score goals. And he's the laziest, softest player I think we've ever had on the Wild. Awful.

Maybe if a certain team hadn't given Vanek an offer sheet when he was just starting out... He would've had to had developed himself as an NHLer more in his formative years!

That might be an interesting claim, I recall that he was a decent D-man prospect for both the Nucks and the Stars at one point.

Not sure how much truth in this but here is what someone (in a comments section) is reporting as the reason for the injury to Harding. If true he must have been PO'd about something.

@laknee He injured himself at a party at his house. He kicked a wall. Since it was before training camp, he doesn't get paid. It is also the reason for the suspension...I'm sure Yeo was livid. Bad decision but I think he's feeling the full force of it. I hope he can make it back and help the Wild win some games. We need consistency.

Edmonton will claim; he will play three straight games and be lights out, bringing elation from the unwashed. Then he will get injured and miss the rest of the season. Not to worry, Edmonton will sign him to a 6x6 contract. But then he'll see so much rubber in his first few games next season that he will go on permanent IR like Savard or Pronger. Of course it won't count against the cap, but it may at least hurt Edmonton's insurance premiums...

Surprised he cleared. Thought someone like New Jersey, might take a gamble on him.

Not with a guy with so many health questions. It just isn't worth it.
