I think this advice can also be applied to old people.

An alternate reality where human beings get to kill one thing every year without repercussion, thus eliminating many gear grinders.

I'd use most of mine on other people's cats.

I don't think it's animal abuse. I've always found good homes.

The problem is I've just been unlucky with pets. Sometimes cats grow up to be pretty cool. Mine always seem to be duds after the kitten phase.

My kids are bugging me a lot to get a pet, though. We have a fish, but nobody in the family really likes it. Maybe fourth time's a charm with cats.

Do not get a cat. You obviously are not mentally mature enough to take care of pets.

I don't know how you treat your kids, but hopefully its only partial maturity issues.

Why would you get two more cats after you realized you aren't a cat person? That's just mental. It's also cruel to the cats.

Get your cats spayed and neutered people, so their kittens don't end up with sliver because he decides to give it another go.

Holy $#@#
So would you never euthanize a pet?

I like good cats. Like I said, I've just had duds. Well the last one was okay, but after we had our first kid he kind of got ignored for a while and it just sort of broke the owner/pet bond irreparably. I think it's very nice to find a good home for unwanted animals. It's cruel to keep a pet you don't want, thus denying them of a loving home.

A cat that is sick and can't have a proper quality of life, should be put down. If you don't have a BBQ and want one, you don't get to trade your cat for it. If he/she has cancer, you likely put them down. If they aren't as cute as they were when they were a kitten, sorry, you have to keep the cat.

How on god's green earth is it better to keep a pet you don't want when a better, more loving home is available that wants the cat? I don't understand your logic.

Not on the basis that it's a "loser" pet vs a "cool pet".

If you think this is bad, you should see how many parrots get abandoned at sexual maturity. Last stat I saw was ~75%.

At least most people tough out owning a cat.

EDIT: If you're dead set on getting another cat, and want to more or less guarantee that it will be uh, "cool", get a Ragdoll. They're 100% always hella chill.

I seriously can't believe I'm reading this. Is a "good" cat something you can ignore when it's not in your interest at the time? Ridiculous...

The logic is if you think there's a chance you won't like a pet down the line you DON'T get a pet.

Because you shouldn't be able to give a cat up because they aren't cute anymore. Don't get pets of you're that stupid, seriously. You shouldn't own an earthworm, sliver.

The problem is that they turn into cats. Kittens are cool, cats not so much.

Mine have always just lazed around the house all day, so not sure what you're doing wrong to have to get rid of them.

Although if I could get a sweet BBQ out of my cat I probably would. My kids would hate me, but I'd have a new BBQ!
