Word is that Maloney said the buyout has to do with behavioural issues, not on-ice performance.

From Sarah McLellan on Twitter https://twitter.com/azc_mclellan

"Maloney: "Mike had some real behavioral issues we felt we could not tolerate going forward.""

"Maloney said this move was purely about behavioral issues and not cost-saving move. Ribeiro has been seeking help this summer, Maloney said."

"Maloney said this decision doesn't necessarily make #Coyotes better team next season but better organization in long run."

"#Coyotes weren't naive when they acquired Ribeiro last summer, but Maloney thought they could manage. Called it "mistake" now"

"And to be clear, this is not a compliance buyout. Ribeiro will get paid over next six years just under $2 million."

Wow. Must be pretty bad to eat that dough.

Hopefully it's nothing to serious for Ribiero. I think we suspect him to be a dooche, but if he's getting help it could be a little more concerning than just that.

That's a PPG of .59 with Phoenix vs. a PPG of 1.02 with Washington. Big difference.

Also put up an average PPG of 0.86 his last 2 years in Dallas. This last year is more of an aberration.
Oh yah, forgot about that lock out thing...

Thanks! From a strictly on ice side of things, I couldn't understand the reason for it.

Strange that they couldn't have at least tried to flip him for a pick. Sounds like Riberio has some substance abuse issues.

You sure it's substance abuse? Maybe he just likes to get naked, put war paint on his face, and hide in parks, scaring kids.

That should be the end of Riberio's NHL career.

If anything, being outed as a dirtbag will entice the Canucks to sign him even more.

If it's due to substance abuse, I don't think it's something to celebrate or joke about. Especially if it did end up being the end of his career. Some people's lack of empathy just creeps me out.

Especially since Maloney said that he's been receiving help this summer, I definitely think it's a substance abuse issue.

Very True.

But if it was substance abuse couldn't they suspend him or put him in a program rather than buy him out with pay for the next six years?

I guess doing that isn't worth it to Phoenix, they just want to cut ties.

I hope he's getting the help he needs.

Yeah, there aren't any D-bag Anonymous groups that I know of.

Hopefully Ribeiro turns it around for himself and his career.

So you're admonishing people for their lack of empathy for his substance abuse problem that nobody has yet said is even the issue?
